No, I don't get how I can possibly control a child's environment so that they are never in contact with those who might seek to do them harm.

It's not a binary choice between complete elimination of all threats and a complete lack of any controls :)

All security is layered.

Of course, but there are inherent dangers in shutting down all avenues for those who potentially present a danger too. Which is the bigger risk? I think I would rather know that a sex offender is being given all the crutches he requires than have them all kicked away from him/her.

I'm for what Poland just did. Allow for the chemical castration of sex offenders, and then there's nothing to worry about.

Well you would be.

Because taking a guy's ####### away removes their sex drive and makes them less physically dangerous.

Not.

Castration is more than the #######. The sex drive would be gone. Less dangerous? I don't know. I guess any criminal that is released is dangerous.

Thanks sister stina and estadia for their replies. and my heart goes out to estadia's sister :(

I, indeed, have absolutely no compassion for rapists. At all.

Not a christian? It's not required.

What are you going on about? Compassion is not the exclusive trait of Christians or any other organized religion. And like stina said, my compassion for a three year old who was -do not read if you are faint of heart- penetrated and fondled and then penetrated again by a sick son of a b1tch absolutely outweighs anything I could feel for the offender.

If you are a christian, compassion for the sick of mind and body is a requirement. You are not so you can feel however you like.

Christians are required to 'love our neighbor'...this is true and from that point we are compassionate to their souls. We are NOT, however, required to 'Like em'. Len can dislike the rapist.

When did I say she should? She doesn't even have to feel compassion, she's not a christian.

I feel sadness that they have such a mind to do such things. However they got there, could be because they were treated the same. But when they commit the act it's hard to find compassion.

Its called 'Parenting'.

Parents will try their best to control their kid's environments.

If you knew anything about the psychology of sex crimes you would know the issue is NOT a functioning ####### or increased sex drive. But then again...

Hard? Of course, that's why you have your faith to give you courage to accomplish the tasks that are hard.

Of course they will try - but as I said, there is a question of the greater good, the greater benefit. Casting the sinners out is not necessarily in the child's best interest.

I'm not sure what your deal is...either trying to make me look bad as a Christian, or sincerely trying to teach me how to be a Christian(doubt that one)? lol

I don't think its possible to debate this topic unless people are prepared to look at it without having an emotional breakdown.

The practical arguments are fairly obvious - either reinforce the laws, or accept that you cannot control every aspect of life in your communities.
