What are you going on about? Compassion is not the exclusive trait of Christians or any other organized religion. And like stina said, my compassion for a three year old who was -do not read if you are faint of heart- penetrated and fondled and then penetrated again by a sick son of a b1tch absolutely outweighs anything I could feel for the offender.

While I do understand the reprocussions of casting sex-offenders out of society, I don't think I could under any circumstances allow my child to be in proximity to one. It's just not a risk i'm willing to take.

Any contact is a risk. About 2 years ago, I had to deal with some aspects of a case involving a child rapist who became fixated with a child whose mother worked at an office across the street from the offenders therapist. After seeing the child a few times walking out of his mothers office, the man became obsessive and stalked the family. I cannot go into any sort of details (I'd like to keep my job), but I would go to any lengths to restrict any sort of contact my child would have with a sex offender.

If you are a christian, compassion for the sick of mind and body is a requirement. You are not so you can feel however you like.

That doesn't mean that they won't offend again, just that they cannot impregnate. But I guess if you're only worried about a potential abortion and not the victim, I suppose that would be acceptable.

People need to understand what creating a class of untouchables really means. I think when they understand that, they will understand why these laws are fundamentally futile.

In India there are untouchables, made that way by birth and no other reason of their own! That is far different than those who committed horrid crimes. Actually here is something Jesus said regarding children, if I am going to use my beliefs in this discussion:

Matthew 18:1-6

It's not a binary choice between complete elimination of all threats and a complete lack of any controls

If you are a christian, compassion for the sick of mind and body is a requirement. You are not so you can feel however you like.

Christians are required to 'love our neighbor'...this is true and from that point we are compassionate to their souls. We are NOT, however, required to 'Like em'. Len can dislike the rapist.
