I agree with Len that the penalties should be much harder, but I think when their out they should get a clean*ish slate. This living in the woods or under a bridge ####### is ridiculous.

Their jail time should be relative to the severity of their crime. I thought that was the meant to be the case currently.

Agreed. And when they are released, what should happen?

Someone who rapes a child should NEVER be allowed out. Or, if he/she is allowed out, you bet he/she should not be allowed anywhere near children. And yes, that includes church. then again, I neither have kids nor go to church :P --- that's why I would want some church going folks to chip in.

The point is that the amendment that gives the freedom to worship where one chooses is at odds with the freedom of people with children to worship without being in the presence of a sex offender. I think I know which one is in the constitution.

The right to worship does not include the right to worship where you choose to. If a congregation does not want you as a member, then you have no rights to worship there, period.

Firstly, the Church is a community of believers...not a building. So to that end he can still have a relationship with God outside the physical walls of the church, obviously.

You know...Christ was a pretty smart guy and he recognized that the world was the domain of man and that there would be inherent conflicts...so to this end he said, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s."

In short, this means that this guy must follow his nation's laws as long as he is alive. But, simultaneously, he should be keeping his eyes on the prize of fixing his relationship with God...even if the law of the land states that he must do that outside of the church building.

Peace and Blessings,

Mark

But should he be allowed into the church while children are present?

Not all sex offenders are child sex offenders. I don't know the proportions, do you?

That said, if I believed in god and worshiped in church I would not want to worship in a church that banned any sex offender from attending a service regardless of whether my child was with me or not. These laws are not stopping sex offenders from offending.

really hard topic for me as my religion does not allow for sex before marriage but here is my thoughts on it

there are some cases where the guy just hit the magic age of 18 him and his girl friend of 15 or 16 have been having consensual sex in the past but magic age of 18 made him into sexual offender.........this should not be something that is given the normal penalty

rapist should be locked up the key thrown away and put on an island with other rapist for the rest of their life

how did i do?

just my opinion

People who prey on children do so compulsively. Keeping children away from them is good for the children and good for them as well. It's an illness.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I have a big problem with "branding" people. There's a lot of NIMBYism that goes on with this issue, and while its understandable that people don't want to live near people with that sort of criminal history, the fact remains that they have to live somewhere. There was a program a while back about a community of sex offenders (I think in NY) who, due to various zoning restrictions on where they could live - ended up living in some sort of group commune.

They say the rate of reoffence is high in that group of people, but that probably isn't helped by completely ostracising those people from the community and in society in general.

If you commit a crime, do your time and are released - you have paid your debt to society. That applies to all manner of other crimes, yet not to this one.
