I sent a letter and 3.8 pounds of docs off to Emilio Gonzales Direcctor of USCIS back in 2007 when I was pissed off, and it was sent to Customer Services and a Catherine Gooding responded 12 months later with information I could have supplied.

I think the higher you go the more thorough they are and longer it takes to get a reply back.

Just to let you all know, I have sent my letter -- in case you all thought I was all talk and no action!

I edited it based on the great information that Trailmix and Peachy and Varba and all the rest of you gave me and I sent it off.

LGG, can you tell me what you took from our letter? Did you take exact sentences? I don't want our letters to sound the same.

Hey Peachy...

I didn't take the exact sentences -- I took an idea from them. The only thing I took was about the online forum and where I'd gotten my information and statistics, you know? And not your exact verbiage either. Just thought that basing my knowledge on something might be smarter than not and that's about it.

Believe me... the do NOT sound the same at all...

I was just wondering...the consul general must be well aware of this situation...a person in charge of the diplomatic mission to Canada is the ambassador. Shouldn't that be the person to send letters to? Since all the consuls report to ambassadors...

Sure, send one to them too!

The thing is, let's say you are running a business and no one ever complains...or not many (ie - to the consul)

If no one complains how likely are you to do anything about it? Apparently not very likely.

I just did a bit of digging around, and it looks like the United States Ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, has a blog. And an email address: ambassador@ottawa.usembassy.gov.

Not that I promote spamming his email, as I'm sure this situation is NOT at the forefront of his duties, but a few rational, calm and well-intentioned letters his way may not be remiss.

Well I took a chance and my letter went off today, express post and will be there tomorrow am.

I was once where you are and hope you never ever go where I went.

Sent mine on the 15th, paid to have it delivered on the 16th a.m..

It was in Montreal at 2:30 a.m. on the 16th.

They finally did deliver it on the 20th, so muh for Canada Post and their next day delivery.

I suggest you send it in an email to the ambassador as well -- his email address is above.

He's only been on the job for a month, so he may not be fully aware of the situation as yet...but it looks like he welcomes emails.

If his office is run anything like ours he doesn't see anything from anyone one level below his own unless their in an acting position. It would go to someone in their correspondence pool to be replied to. In our office three people read his e-mails, print them out and give him the ones that require his input. I have 18+ years in a deputy minister's office and that's life around here. We have a 24 hour turn around for replying to letters/requests, the consulate and perhaps the embassy don't have that respect for their citizens. His staff is always aware even if he is not.
