I'm considering a Graduate Program in England. It's an M.A. one year at full-time or two years at part-time which they say most of their Graduate Students choose. I don't know the answer to this so I wanted to ask for those that are having post-grad experience from the UK have you found that US employers find your Graduate work in the UK is equivalent or relevant here or elsewhere? When does school normally begin and end there? From their website it's hard for me to tell if the dates given are when the program begins or when I need to have my graduate school application in by. The dates they give for the program are 1/25/10 and 5/30/10. Is it year round, quarters, or two semesters a year with summers off? How does the system work there?

It also depends on the university as well as the kind of employment you seek. A medical degree in the UK is accepted here so long as it is from a duly accredited university. A law degree is not, except perhaps for teaching. On and on it goes.

It's a MA in International Relations at the University of Westminster in London. I was attracted to them because they are said to be second in the nation for their communications department which I was also looking at degrees in and then I saw their International Relations degree which I really liked. I've only found three other higher degrees in the US like the one at Westminster and only two programs appeal to me and they're at Georgetown and USC. I graduated Magna Cum Laude so I know I qualify for the degree programs at any of these along with my communications and political science background and extra curricular activities. My Husband wants me to do the program at USC because it fits me best and we don't have to worry about his visa process while I've always wanted to study in London.

Hey B&S I've been posting updates in the MENA forum in the K1/K3/CR-1/IR-1 Part II thread. Click the underlined portion and it should take you to the beginning of where I start with all that's happening. I'll keep people updated in that thread when I get more information then what I've already posted there.

The name confused me, it is is the Central London Poly re branded.

Often it is as much about where you get your qualifications as which qualifications.

If you click the underlined link it will take you to their website. I linked all the school programs and a visajourney thread for another person.

Good news today! I found out from another friend that went there for the same degree I'm looking at and it is recognized in the US since it's a full MA program and employers regard it as such. She said it's the study and work in London that they find most impressive. She also answered my other question on how it works for fulltime students. That she took four classes in two semesters and had to write a dissertation and that I could start in January or the Fall. She suggests fall in order for me to get my student visa in time. She also said that US Federal Student Loans apply to there as well but I already know that if you're going to Graduate School you want the ones that will pay you to go there not the ones that you have to pay. It's good to know otherwise. I have to admit a MA in a year is pretty attractive to me. She said I would have to work through the summer on my dissertation as that is part of being full-time. She didn't know if I could even get a visa for part-time student. Would someone point me in the direction where I need to look for the visa rules for myself and my Husband please?

Thank you! Discussing it online with my Husband now while we're both researching his visa options there with me. :D He says it's one of the hardest places for him to get a visa. I didn't know that. I guess we'll see.

Why aren't you ringing up the University and asking them to help you figure this out?

Since you're not doing that, try this website. Somebody there may be able to help you figure this out.

I have no idea why your husband would think it's harder for an Egyptian to get a visa to the UK than any other foreign national. I never saw a city more diverse than London.

I expect she'd get a better answer here with people who may have had such experience getting their degrees translated than by ringing the university, to be perfectly honest

New York city is also incredibly diverse, so is Los Angeles - it doesn't mean its not difficult difficult from young men from the middle east to get a visa to come here either
