Question about Visiting fiance while K1 is pending

Yes I have lost my mind and have decided to book a 2 week vacation to be with the hunny this November. We *should* have had an interview but bec of the backlog we dont know where we are in the interview line up.

So additional questions (and thanks to those who gave me their 2 cents on my original post and to those who replied to my private messages):

Do the immigration people know if a vistor has a pending k1 application? Has anyone ever visited the US and the CBP person knew that he/she has a pending K1?

And do CBP people take down the reasons youre entering the US? Ive only visited the hunny twice this year -- once in January before he submitted the I-129F application and in June before the I-129F got approved. Every time I fly to the US, specifically in MD, I say Im visiting the boyfriend (which was still true in January :P). But in June, I got a super mean lady and she was so grouchy and asked why I was bringing 2 big luggage while visiting for 2.5 weeks and in panic I said I was visiting friends instead of boyfriend...

So now I dont know if I should even say I am visiting fiance or boyfriend or friend and if I say fiance they will be like "WELL last June you didnt say that blahblahblahblah" and I can just imagine myself being thrown in some basement jail and never getting out... well Im exaggerating but you know. SIGH I have lost sleep because of this :(

I appreciate any insight and advice. However, I am in a bit of a low point right now, so please be gentle :P

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Just always tell the truth and bring proof of ties to Canada and you won't have a problem.

The last time I visited, they actually didn't ask me who I was visiting, but if they had, I would've just said fiance. Just bring your paperwork so far as it shows you are going through the legal immigration process and not trying to circumvent any immigration laws.

Have fun!

Spoom always brings a copy of his K-1 paperwork, just in case. We've never needed it though. Usually they just ask us a few questions and we're through - but we're driving across the bridge, not flying.

@DarkChilde

Don't panic, that's the worst thing to do.

Bring a copy of your NOA2, and any other paperwork you have. If you are employed ask your boss for a letter explaining that you have a job and will be fired if you don't return. If you have a car/house loan or a lease contract bring a copy of it as well.

IF they decide to be a pain, they _can_ ask for proof of regarding your immigration status and request proof of your ties to Canada.

If they ask and you don't have the info they have every right to deny you.

But, don't worry Peachey has come across several times being in the stage you're in and we've never needed this extra documentation. One border guard asked to see it because I was holding a stack of papers... but he seemed more interested in being rude than actually denying entry.

As we always say, be honest and upfront. They don't always like when you're coming down for 2 weeks (we've run into this as well), but answer every question and have your proof and you'll be perfectly fine.

:)

Montreal Interviewer: "What do you have in common with each other?"

Peachey: "We're REALLY weird."

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

<back to interview>

Me: "Yes, yes I do."

I've never had a problem. I drive down from Vancouver to Seattle on a monthly basis -- either to fly out from Seattle to Washington D.C., or to pick my wife up in Seattle FROM Washington D.C. (flights are much, much cheaper to and from Seattle than to and from Vancouver). I have a Nexus pass, so it's never a problem going solo...but even when my wife and I are driving back to Seattle together in the regular line, we've had nothing but positive experiences. In fact, it was a border guard who first told us what the best immigration path would be...

Like others have said, just be completely honest and polite. 95% of the time the border guards are amicable and just doing their jobs. Only a few have an axe to grind...and it's unfortunate that those are the ones who give border guards in general a bad reputation.

For what it's worth, I've never had to take any additional documentation -- I've just said that my K-3 is in process (though in my case it's now an IR1).

Ease those nerves!
