Well to take one example they cite - they're right about Ireland - abortion is banned there but that hasn't stopped women there (several thousand per year) from travelling to the UK to have the procedure done there. There have been several landmark cases overturning rulings by Irish courts that attempted to bar women from travelling if it was suspect that they were going to have an abortion.

Well that has more to do with the accessibility to abortion not the ban of abortion. If abortions were banned universally do you really think the rate would go down.

Oh come on - that's pie in the sky. Abortion isn't going to be banned on a global basis - there will always be access to some neighbouring country or region that offers it legally, or to backstreet quacks who will do it illegally. Women even do it themselves.

Of course it never will be globally. My point was that this isnt just a matter of banning doesnt work, because it really hasnt been banned, sure in one country but you can go to another country and do it. Basically your trying to tell me that abortion rates would stay the same regardless to if Ireland banned them or not and thats the argument Planned Parenthood is trying to make, its ridiculous.

The argument here and historically is that banning abortion doesn't remove the demand for it - people either go elsewhere to have it done, or it goes "underground". This is certainly the case in the absence of traditional contraceptive methods. Lets not beat about the bush in trying to deny that bans on abortion arise out of religious morality intruding into mainstream politics; and that disparagement of contraception occurs for similar reasons.

That's one of the biggest problems in the developing world, and why HIV is so prevalent there. Condom use is frowned upon because church missionaries have spread disinformation among superstitious people who would rather keep them ignorant than have the church lose an ideological battle.

Hey! Can't blame me for wanting you guys to fight damnit, I am bored. :hehe:

And it is, still, a woman's right to choose. Would I exercise that right? I don't know. But as of today, that's my prerogative according to the law.

What the hell am I talking about? Why do you suppose abortion is currently illegal in so many countries Simpson? That's question number one. Second question, was abortion in countries where it is now legal has it always been legal? Answer both questions correctly and you know what I am talking about.

To act like this is the only two things that could happen is ridiculous. Some people would choose to have the baby rather than the other options. Point being is you have 50 people who want a abortion, some of them can afford to go elsewhere others are not afraid to go underground but what about those people who who dont meet either criteria? Not all 50 people are going to have a abortion, the rate would go down and the argument the first part of this article is trying to make is a joke.

You need to read more Simpson. Seriously, you don't seem to understand the historical perspective of this issue at all and without that you make absurd statements, like what happens to those who are to afraid to seek an abortion when it's illegal.

What do you mean it hasn't been tried? Are you stupid or just ignorant?
