Moving to the US: Customs Declarations

Hello all... I'll be moving to the US on a K1 fiancee visa on Wednesday. My intention is to bring some of my stuff with me, and then have my parents bring the rest of my stuff when they come for the wedding in September. I have two questions:

1) What am I required to declare on the customs form? How much detail should I provide for my personal items, and how do I determine the value of items purchased over many years? Also, is there a maximum value that my items can be valued at?

2) Similarly, are my parents able to bring in personal effects for me duty free? What should they put on the customs form?

I know when I was doing my shipping the customs form asked only to list those items under 1 year old (as they MIGHT be liable for duty). I put everything in the 'over one year old, for personal use and purchased abroad' category as that was accurate. I was also told they want general things like 'clothing' not 'one pair of pants, two skirts, 2 jackets' etc etc

Value - well most of it being second hand didn't HAVE much value - so I just gave a 'replacement value' type thing on it - the only thing of real value (money wise) was my DVD collection - clothing that isn't new has little or no real value (except to YOU! lol)

I haven't filled in the one you get on the plane yet (in 2 days tho, lol) so I'll leave that one for others to comment on in more detail
