sorry - I meant the mandalay bay

ok thought that was what you meant.. yeah I think they have soaker tubs.. which is one of the reason I am leaning towards that one...

I was reading a review on the MGM and it implied that the bathroom wasn't' that great

the buffet at the Mandaly is supposed to be good and you can pay about 35 buck a person and you can eat there for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for one day...

The best buffet by far is the sunday brunch buffet at the MGM.

ok...

hubby said the best brunch is at the Flamingo but he hasn't been to Vegas in ages...

The Flamingo has an excellent dinner buffet. If you get there early, they have a good prime rib.

how were the rooms at the MGM?

we loved the rooms it has been upgraded (probably more than once) since i stayed there last which was 9 years ago around my 21st bday we had an amazing room and the bathroom was incredible since they upgraded us to a suite. definitely do a virtual tour of the rooms worth a peek.

enjoy!

My husband has been bugging me about Las Vegas since I moved here :P and I think I have finally caved..

We are thinking of going in between Christmas and New Years for a night or two...

right now I am leaning towards Mandalay Bay or Trump International Hotel, both are about 100 bucks a night...

I know I could get a way cheaper hotel but we are only staying for a night or two so I figured we could stay at a somewhat nicer hotel...

anyways I wondered if anyone had any opinions on either of those hotels or know of one that is better but around that same price range and close to the strip...

Mandalay Bay is at the extreme southern end of the Strip. It's the last major Strip hotel.

That's too far down, for my tastes.

I prefer to be closer to the center - around NY/NY / Caesars is the "sweet spot" imho.

We are thinking of going there too! For the Christmas weekend. Since we don't celebrate Christmas (we're a Jewish/Buddhist couple) we figured we could get discounts when all you Xians wanna be with family and nobody is thinking Vegas. We're looking at a Southwest getaway package for airfare+hotel 3 nights, probably going to go with New York New York.

Good luck with getting a rate of $100 per night.... Everyone would prefer to be in the mainstream, but those rates are over $250 per night...unless you are a gambling fool......Then it's free, until you payout your losses.

Vegas is begging for customers. Room bargains are everywhere. Just do some research online and find bargains. Let the high priced hold out places eat their empty rooms! Good Luck.

I keep getting emails from the Venetian (my favorite) for $129 a night including slot/restaurant/credits...definitely deals to be had. Now, they have some nice bathtubs!

hmm, I have looked at a few places for the Venetian and the lowest I can find is $169 a night

Its been 5 or 6 years since i went but dont plan on driving from what i remember, We stayed at the Stratosphere twice, the old MGM, but next timei would like to try the Venetian. We found your not in your room that much but out and about in the town that never sleeps. We saw the show of impersonators at the Stratsophere but like i said a few years back, im sure alot has changed. Most of the newer popular show are very expensive (for me anyway)

I didn't get to eat at a whole lot of places there, but I liked the Stratosphere's buffet. If you go a bit before they switch to lunch, they'll leave a few of the breakfast things out.

The dessert table was the best.

I don't know, but just wanted to say that I wish you a safe trip and have a blast! :)

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

We just got back from our 3 day stay. We stayed at NY/NY, as mentioned earlier in this thread.

We saw Zumanity, which was a really great show, very erotic yet funny, with all the good Cirque du Soleil acrobatics.

The Zumanity tickets were $99+fees ($126 total) for 2 of us, as registered guests at NY/NY.

That's half the price of the cheapest tickets when booking online.

We also got a buffet+show package at the Flamingo. The show was Nathan Burton - he does a comedy/magic act - it's quite good. The buffet was also decent - great shrimp/crawfish/crablegs, pretty decent prime rib, etc. Those tickets were $29 each - for show AND buffet. Heck, that's what the buffet alone goes for, so the show was a freebie. TIP: DON'T order a drink at the show, unless you just can't bear not to. The drinks were $13 EACH. $26 for two margaritas. Ouch.

What else?

The Dueling Pianos at NY/NY is fun.

I played some poker - twice at O'Sheas (a $1/$2 no-limit game and $1 blind $1-$5 spread limit game) and once at Excalibur ($2/$4 no limit). I like the vibe at O'Sheas better (more 'authentic' Vegas), but the game at Excalibur was livelier, more action, higher raises, bigger pots. Don't ask me how I did. I'm not telling

Vickie played some slots, just video poker machines. She's not much of a gambler.
