I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm hoping will have a final bill on the President's desk to sign before the New Year.

I'll see your cautious optimism and raise you a glass half empty.

Senator Snowe is not the friend you take her to be. The public option will not make it to the Presidents desk if the Democrats trust in her buy-in.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

My remarks had little to do with Snowe's vote. It passed 14-9. The Democrats have the votes for the Baucus Bill. The question is whether they can get enough on board if they add a public option to the bill. The case for it is strong and so I'm cautiously optimistic we'll see a bill on the President's desk before the New Year.

Ignore the full Senate math at your own risk. 14-9 in the SFC reflects the party split, with Snowe voting with the Democrats, nothing more. So that is a rather spurious majority when it comes to the crunch.

With Snowe on board, reconciliation is, realistically, off the table. Therefore, to pass the Seante, the Bill needs 60 votes. If there is an upfront public option, Senator Olympia Snowe will vote against, as she has already stated, quite clearly. Therefore, Sen. Reid has to make certain that all the Democrat members of the Senate vote for the Bill. Don't be too sure the votes are there.

I wonder where all the RWN are that were oh so sure that the health care reform effort would never see the floor of the Senate. Funky how in a few short weeks the entire debate shifted from whether there would a reform bill to what that reform bill will look like in the end. Even the public option looks more than probable at this point. And all that with a President who has no leadership skills whatsoever.

Well that didnt take long for the Obama praising to begin.

obamasheeple.jpg

Leave my girls out of this. :bonk:

YOUR girls!

Oh the outrage.

First, Charles puts in all those cartoon "Obaamaa" balloons on MY flock.

Then, Spooky claims them as HIS flock.

Will the travesties never cease???

Reconciliation/shmation. Who gives a patoon?

Until ALL my sheep are covered with a Canadian style single-payer option, regardless of pre-existing burr-wool conditions,

the quest for true universal health care shall not end!

Olympia Snow says that she will not vote for the public option, which is not in the SFC bill. At this time, there are 5 health care bills to be reconciled. The chances for a public option to pass in the final bill are still slim.

You conveniently forget that the SFC version is the only version of the reform bill left that lacks a public option. Seeing that the house bill will have a public option in it and seeing that one of the Senate versions has it, I'd speculate that the odds of the public otion to make it into the final bill are better than average. Whether Sen. Snowe votes for that public option or not is actually rather irrelevant. This is where the GOP seriously fcuked up. Due their clear strategy to oppose to any measure of health care reform whatsoever, they have made themselves all but irrelevant in the effort rather than being part of shaping it. If they had shown willingness to participate and compromise, the public option wouldn't even be debated right now. However, I cannot imagine that the public option will fall for a single GOP vote in he Senate. That would make no sense at all.

How do you come to that conclusion? Are you saying that reconciliation on major legislation isn't done if there's even a whiff of bi-partisanship? If so, you are mistaken. Look up EGTRRA 2001. ;)

I'm optimistic too - and realistic. Socialist medicine will never pass. You're delusional by thinking that getting it out of committee is "momentum" but then again, its libs we're talking about.

Not to mention Leiberman is against it.

Well, it's not Socialist Medicine, that's for sure.

Nothing being proposed on the Hill is socialized medicine.

The only form of socialized medicine at all in the US is administered through the VA.

Impossible. Ask Joe. Socialized medicine will never pass.

Well - it won't - because that's not what is being proposed.

That doesn't change the fact though that Joe doesn't understand what socialized medicine is.

I don't understand why the WH didn't label this reform, Health Insurance Reform. That would have made comments like Joseph's even more obviously stupid to even the biggest skeptics of a public option.
