Yes, I don't consider it racist. It might be but I don't think it is. I just wondered whether it was succeeding on any level. So far, the responses have been few and far between but none that have suggested that it has any merit - which is good in my opinion.

It's an artistic/model question. Does anything about the picture strike anyone as bringing the best out of the model, enhancing her features/form? I think it makes her look insanely freakish.

I made the assumption, perhaps foolishly, that the picture to the left was of the same model. Now, while what she is wearing doesn't appeal to me in that shot either, I can at least see some artistry in the shot, a justification for the make up, hair etc, it has an overall integrity. The second shot just looks like something that someone thought would give the model an edgy look, but failed. What I don't understand is once looking through the lens and seeing how it turned out, the person didn't call it a day and look for a different angle. But, I am not an artist or a fashion photographer so my opinion is just the opinion of a lay person. In that light, I wanted other opinions to get a feel for what the consensus was on the success/failure of the shot.

I don't think the model in black make up looks creepy - I think it just looks silly.

If someone had posted this and said it is what their teenage daughters came up with over the weekend - then I could understand why someone took a picture - it looks amaturish and silly.

The fact that it is a magazine and they couldn't even airbrush it to look remotely interesting makes it even more of a failure.
