War breaks out between Fox News and the Obama administration

Yes I watched this on Fox last night. Their coverage of the issue was self-serving in the best traditions of marketing (in marked constrast to whenever BBC News reports on stories that are critical of the BBC).

Like the other side isn't just as self serving? Nonsense. If you can't defend your policies or lack of action, and someone is reporting on it, shut them down. Tragic.

If you can't perform, attack. Typical. Obama has done nothing of substance at all.

Quite simply, I don't buy Fox News claim that its somehow an innocent party in all this. The media in this country is heavily politicised - I've never (in any of the countries I've lived in) seen the news media act as an extension of the party political system, with rival networks slagging each other off on the air.

Yes, I fully expect this to be a stupid debate and that VJ will give it plenty of coverage ;). America does this ###### very well indeed.

To be honest, I didn't think that you would be the one to be posting it.

Usually, something appears on Fox - its on VJ almost simultaneously ;)

The Guardian is more than a little obsessed with Fox but I don't know if there's any American news outlet similarly addicted to covering any media in the UK.

BTW this is just an observation but does the BBC have as many American reporters as the U.S. media seems to have of British or Australian reporters?

That's not what I'm saying. I have seen the BBC report stories that have been highly critical of it, without any hint of the marketing spin that was in evidence on the Fox story.

That entire segment was a barely concealed advertisement for why people should watch Fox.

What I found particularly interesting was how much material they got out of an extremely short quote by the Obama administration official. An entire night's coverage devoted to a 2 or 3 sentence comment about Fox being a mouthpiece of the GOP.

"War" with Fox News indeed

I like that, the Guardian is obsessed with Fox news. I think 'fascinated' would be the word I would choose, it's my word for the 'fox' phenoma too.

I saw a TV ad for The Nation on Fox last night, which proudly proclaimed as a selling point how it's "brilliant writers" take on "liberal democrats".

The mass media in this country is pretty much fvcked!

Maybe it's all a distraction so that we don't notice this:

Perhaps it will be on tonight.

Hmmm. About this topic in my opinion...I'm obviously on the more conservative side. Although Fox News annoys me too sometimes, but really most opinion shows annoy me on any of the news channels. I think the White House is being whiny babies about the whole thing though. That's just my opinion.

Fox 5 news cracks me up everytime with that "OMG! It's 10pm, where are my children!?"

Don't know about that station but that's an old line but I haven't heard it lately. It's long before Fox so you can safely untwist your panties.

"Do you know where your children are? is a popular question used as a public service announcement for parents on American television throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, usually at 10:00PM or 11:00PM, depending on the market and/or the time of the local youth curfew. The phrase originated from Buffalo, New York's long time ABC affiliate WKBW, and was possibly inspired by the Scottish bedtime story, Wee Willie Winkie.

WKBW news director Irv Weinstein is said to have begun using the phrase at the beginning of his career in the early 1960s, at the suggestion of a local viewer. WKBW used the phrase until 2003, when virtually all of its old image was scrapped in favor of a newer package, and returned to the phrase as a partial return to its old package in 2008.

Besides being used on WKBW, the question became the long-running slogan of New York City TV station (and eventual Fox affiliate), WNYW, which often had celebrities saying it on camera just before the news."
