Hello my VJ family,

Does an American Citizen need to obtain a Visa to enter Vietnam if he is married to a Vietnmese Citizen? The marriage took place in the United States.

If you don't have a Vietnamese Passport than you need a visa whether you are married to a Vietnamese National or not. I think if you intend to stay there for an extended period of time, if you are married to a Vietnamese national then you don't have to renew as often. Check the Vietnam embassy website for more info.

If you do not hold a VN passport, you will need a visa. Good news is that they do have a 5 year visa waiver for $20 bucks for spouses of Vietnamese Nationals... your 2nd waiver is only $10 bucks.

I applied for the 5 year visa waiver a few months back, It takes about 30 days.

My wife and I will be going back to Vietnam Nov29-Dec30th

I want to get a regular visa to visit Thu early next year in VN. I downloaded the visa application form. Do I have to send in my original passport with the application or can I just send copies of every single page? I feel very uncomfortable of sending them my passport :(

You need to send it to them so that they can stick the visa in your passport. This is true with any country you go to where you need a visa. When your fiancee gets approved for her visa she will have to let the US consulate keep her passport for a couple of days so that they can stick the US visa in her passport.

Also, how much does it cost for a single visit for 1 month length of stay? The embassy of vietnam expects you to send payment with the application but they don't say how much on their website. lol. They never responded to my emails either.

Vietnam is weird in a sense the visa fees varies from my experience... I believe it's cheaper to get the visa in Vietnam when I was over there.. When I had my secretary get my visa for me it was more expensive in the United States.. I don't remember how much but I remember it was a big difference. Lots of people use Local Vietnamese Travel Agencies in the US to get their visa to go to Vietnam. Or you can call the Vietnam embassy in Washington DC to get more info.. I called them once before and they answered the phone and were very helpful.

your other alternatives are

1. Get a loose-leaf visa where they give you a piece of paper (you don't have to send in your passport)

2. Apply for a visa in VN for $25-30 bucks..I believe Mr. Saigon did this for his last trip?? Search the forums...he also posted the website he used...all you need when you go over there is a confirmation number if you use this method.

As for the fees VN embassy charges for a visa it's different depending on who calls and what your nationality is!! Seriously...I think one time I called it was $130...I called back and told them I was Vietnamese and they told me $30...

Not necessarily...I got a loose leaf visa last time, but only because I didn't have my passport available (I didn't know where I had put it) but I had a copy so I sent them that and 2 2x2 passport-style photos and the fee $130 for the multiple entry 3-month visa... :P

I sent them my passport 4 times and have always gotten it back. :)

I don't know the current single entry visa price. Give the embassy a call.
