Hello all,

Today we went to the Social Security Office to apply for the social security card (form SS-5) after waiting the suggested 2 weeks for everything to go through. In the process the woman asked for a work authorization card (I-765 approved document i am guessing), which we were not going to file until after we are married. The lady put the documentation through with out this form but I have a couple of questions.

1. Will the social security card be denied for lack of this information?

2. Where and or how do we file the I-765 information (send it in to a DHS office or go directly to the nearest DHS office)?

3. Is this needed before we apply for change of status?

We were planning on waiting until after we were married to file for I-765 as she is using this time to practice her English and become more familiar with English. What are your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Chad

No.

You will (or should) do this (file the I-765) at the same time you submit your AOS. Follow This Guide

No

This is exactly what you should do - get married, file AOS/EAD (and AP if so desired) all at the same time. Refer to the Guide linked above for details.
