Does somebody know is it true that when u are aplying for aos the fee of 1010 $ includes and EAD fee? and permision to leave country? we wont need to pay any extra mone for getting these? i am just trying to figurate out how much money we need for our journey to be completed

IF you file for EAD and AP with the AOS, it's only the $1010 fee.

IF you file for the EAD and/or AP separately from the AOS, it's an additional $340/$305.

It's to your advantage to file for both with the AOS, even if you have no intention of using them.

BTW, I don't know if anyone else here is in a consulate that has no packet three, but in Brazil, you can email them once you have have your NVC case number to schedule the interview. We emailed them today (on the advice other others here that have interviewed at Rio, as a 2 week shortcut - the time it typically takes for Rio to receive and process the petition and send the interview date with the packets via email) and should have the interview date and the packets tomorrow or Tuesday instead of VDay - happy Groundhog's Day for us!

I don't know if Canada (or other packet 3-before-packet 4/interview date countries) will give you packet 3 over email with your NVC case, but it's definitely worth the try!

BTW, guys. As stupid as it is, to asks this, being on the stage of the process I'm now, I still would like to know: what is "Packet 3" and how is it different form "Packet 4"?

Packet three is basically the instructions for the foreign fiance - what documents to collect, etc. Packet 4 is usually the interview date/information. Consulates differ, of course, but that's the basics!

Are you sure about that? That AP is basically free if you file it with AOS? That is great news if true!

What is EAD and AOS and AP???

AOS - Adjustment of Status. Your new husband/wife files for AOS after marriage to change their status to permanent resident (ie get a green card). This allows them to remain legally in the US.

EAD - Employment authorization document. Your new husband/wife needs this to work legally before the green card is received.

AP - Advanced parole. Your new husband/wife needs this to travel outside of the US before the green card is received.

My fiance and I filed on 10/6. They got our package but haven't cashed our check. I'm beginning to wonder if USCIS even wants my money
