Hi,

I was wondering how many fiancee's from the Philippines used an immigration service or did you "go it alone"?

If you used a service, do you think it was worth the money? If you had it do all over again, would you use a

service or not use a service?

If you did not use a service and had to do it all over again, would you use one?

A

yes we did in our 1st petition, and will again in our second petition.... its good to have one bcoz they can check all the papers, the process will be very smooth, no problem... we paid $850 in cherryblossoms agency.... based in hawaii... goodluck....

We initially hired a lawyer...big $3,000 (out of $ 5,500) mistake.

That is a huge financial mistake, and one reasons lawyers have such a bad name and reputation in the USA.

I agree of not using any service, especially LAWYERS, but my wife keep on telling that she doesn't have time filing these papers.

I can't do anything, she still hired this lawyer.

Now she just keep on following what the lawyer tells her to do.

First, she told my wife to wait at least 8 to 10 weeks before we will have the NOA-2, which is true in some cases. We got the NOA-2 after 32 days.

Second, when we got to NVC, I was the one who is calling the NVC from Saudi to obtain the Case #, not our lawyer.

I informed my wife that we alreay have the case number and we need to start gathering all the required documents to make everything easy, but the lawyer told her to wait at least 4-6 weeks before obtaining such documents because it might get expired. I told her don't listen to hear because after a week NVC will send our AOS bill and IV bill thru mail because I already called the NVC and gave our e-mail addresses but still she did not listen and after 5 days there you go, they already sent those IV bill and AOS bill to our atty.

I told my wife to get a Certification of Employment for after 3 days of payment for AOS bill NVC will send the I-864 package, but she told me it's too early for that what's her lawyer told her to do. Our payment is still being process, perhaps tomorrow or the next day NVC will send the AOS but until now my wife have not gather those papers such as Certificate of Employment, Pay stubs, Tax returns etc. I know it will make the processing slow because we are not ready.

I got pissed off with my wife, because she was acting like she doesn't know anything with the process and she is just letting the Atty do the tasks.

Been there, done that.

It drove my husband crazy for a while...he was getting frustrated with them, and I (being in a Canadian immigration firm) was perpetually giving our lawyers the benefit of the doubt (from one immigration professional to another)...until I saw with my own eyes the untruths they had fed us from September 2008 to April 2009...add to that our frustration with them for taking their sweet time doing anything...and making us prepare questionable documents (such as billing statements of my Philippine residence in preparation for a DCF...that were not even in hubby's name). We also had our forms ready from the get-go...and yet they wanted us to fill out their forms :P Talk about mediocrity and stalling to the highest level!

No more. We're going VJ all the way to N-400.

Am sure for some of you guys, a lawyer was a godsend, but in our situation, they were <insert your personal derogatory term for them here>.

Have I said: Thank you VJ? :)

Oh what the heck, I'll say it again: Thank you VJ! :D

Used him:

http://www.fianceevisas.net/

I'm too darn busy/impatient to sit and try and put all the stuff together. I also knew i was dealing with the government and didn't want to take a chance getting denied over a t or i not crossed or dotted.

Jim Phair did a super good job for us. I highly recommend him...and at $485.00 it was well worth it.

*The funny thing is, is that everytime i logged on to VJ, and read alot of the info, i would be freaking out in a negative way. Then i would call Jim and he would laugh and tell me it was not a big deal, (cause he knew he had filed everything precise and perfect for us).

The wife and I did it ourselves..and while I wouldn't exactly call it easy, it wasn't that terribly hard, but I was lucky as my wife worked very closely with me doing her paper chasing in the Phils, as I did the petitioner forms here in the states, so if you have a good partner who will work with you, it helps alot, and of course VJ was a wonderful source of info. too.
