Hi,

I was wondering how many fiancee's from the Philippines used an immigration service or did you "go it alone"?

If you used a service, do you think it was worth the money? If you had it do all over again, would you use a

service or not use a service?

If you did not use a service and had to do it all over again, would you use one?

A

Thanks,

I was wondering how many fiancee's from the Philippines used an immigration service or did you "go it alone"? Like a majority of VJers, we did it alone.

If you did not use a service and had to do it all over again, would you use one?

Nope.

Wife and I used Olivis Travel located in Cebu. I hired them before I knew of this website. Even though I had read some bad reviews (long after I hired them), they did everything that they promised, and my wife and her children had no problems whatsoever in thier visa and interview process. At the time I hired them, I was working two jobs and had limited experience in this process. Knowing what I know now, from what I have learned on this excellent web site, I dont think that I would have hired them,(not because they did anything wrong or broke any promises) I would have went at it with the information found here. The only word of advice I can give you is be very methodical, check everything multiple times, and follow the directions the good people here have been so kind to write out and post. I wish you good luck in your process and hopefully you will be reunited with your loved one soon.

I used a service because I did not know this site existed until after the process was well underway. Knowing what I know now, I would not use a service again.

Its not that the service I used did anything wrong its just that they were not as into this as I was. To them it was just another stack of papers to process and to me it was my life.

Ours was a K-1 and we used a service that actually turned out to be very good and was reasonable. They got our NOA2 in 2 1/2 months. I believe most people with the help of VJ and just being methodical can do it themselves. I do not recommend attorneys at all! If I had to do it again I would use this service again. My reason is that it gives you some peace of mind its being done correctly. This was my first time, where they have done it many, many times with total success. It only takes one little glitch to delay things and to most people its one of the most important events in their life and want no problems. I hope this helps and wish you luck.

vj is great free immigration service, use it and save ur money. it is easy to do the visa yourself, good luck, abby n sheryl

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

We initially hired a lawyer...big $3,000 (out of $ 5,500) mistake.

When Rick found VJ, it helped us uncover a number of untruths that were passed on to us:

- that Rick qualifies for DCF (duh...he isn't a resident of the Philippines...for any USC to qualify for DCF you have to be a resident of the Philippines for at least 6 months...I verified this information later by digging through the USCIS memo archives --- yes, they are public information)

- that we needed the NSO copy of our marriage certificate before we can file our I-130 petition (many, many posts here revealed that a certified true copy from the LCRO would have sufficed for the initial I-130 application)

- that my previous TB of the bone would cause problems on our application (they charged us an extra $1,000 for that added "complexity" in our case; all I did was get a medical certificate from the hospital that treated me describing the prognosis, the cost and availability of treatment, and what my outlook was...voila...no problems with my medical exam)

- that I needed consent from my ex-husband to bring Pippo over to the U.S. (DSWD does NOT issue travel permits when the child is travelling with either biological parents or when the child is illegitimate...you can check that out on their website, look for DSWD Administrative Order 02-2006)

- that we could not do this ourselves! (Rick and I were a great team, we got everything sent in and ready and sent in when it was supposed to, in the speed we wanted...it was just the waiting time that really made it hard)

Yet here we are...already passed the U.S. Embassy interview, waiting for our visas to be delivered. Am so glad we fired those clowns in April and did this ourselves.

Thanks, VJ!

Did everything on our own from the very start of our K1 process

Started on the 10/6/2008

And finally finished with my wife getting her green card on the 09/17/2009. couyld have had it sooner but we waited 2 months before getting married.

Just take your time filling out the paperwork and double check everything. Save your money for when she gets here

When I received my NOA, I just used the USCIS site for all the information and forms that I have to use. In this way, you will know personally the process of your petition.

 Make sure to get that with Certified Mail Signature Confirmation.

I (we) put off the I-129F for several months because we thought we needed to use a service. It was cost prohibitive. Then I put in several hours here on Visa Journey reading about the I-129F Petition and the K1 visa and determined we could do it ourselves... We COULD do it better! And the further I read the more I understood we SHOULD do it ourselves, we are the one's affected. It really came together as I actually began to assemble everything concentrating on primary evidence and the important must have items. And I learned specifics for the Manila Embassy we had not considered before; I front-loaded the petition with evidence of an ongoing relationship that matched our primary "have met in person" evidence.

There are some real solid conscientious posters here that really make VJ work. (You know who you are - thanks people!) Remember, you must meet the requirements and you absolutely must provide what is specifically asked for. We kinda doubled up on things; his and hers birth certs; his and hers Intent to Marry statements - notarized; his full passport; his divorce decree and divorce certificate; his and hers statements of relationship - handwritten. Throughout we made sure all the dates match - if she said I met her parents on 23 November we had a piece of primary evidence to support this... And carefully avoided anything we did not have evidence to support.

If it takes you several weeks to put it together you are better off than if you go with a service - or attorney - and they foul it up. And go with the standard "rules" not the exceptions that are discussed - do the stuff that works for the masses and learn from those that didn't. If it clearly says something in the form instructions, concisely follow them. No need to be an expert here - just follow the advice of those that followed the advice of those that followed the advice......
