What's with all the 'let's be friends' #######? Has Col Bat been calling for group hugging sessions, again?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Well, the application to global warming may seem liberal, but their actual conclusion seems to be that people should do things themselves instead of waiting for a government bureaucracy to solve their problems. Seems like a pretty conservative idea to me.

Actually it's an Anarchist idea.

Well, that's true in the extreme. The right-left spectrum in America is about how large of a role the government should play in people's lives. The extreme right wing view is anarchy while the extreme left wing view on the spectrum is government control of everything. But most people are in the middle.

My point is, the "do it yourself" mentality is right wing. Anything in the extreme is unhealthy. That doesn't make it bad.

If you want to talk about liberal ideology, it is basically favours limiting the power of government. There is nothing in liberal dogma that espouses large state institutions as a working model.

No that's not right. Anarchist theory is its own thing - it only appears "extreme" in the sense that its classically perceived; chaos. Its actually a fairly diverse branch of theory.

Basically, the difference that the article aludes to regards the ownership of property. The usual political arguments revolve around whether things should be privatised or socialised.

This seems to be talking about property being controlled by the community (as opposed to the government or private enterprise) - like fixing your own roads.

For liberals the freedom of the individual is paramount after all.

except whenever the environment can be used as an excuse to limit freedom, or health insurance or anything unhealthy is used as an excuse, or if you "made too much money, and so and so needs some"

Yes I know that. The article referred to "common property" - and that it is frequently mismanaged under socialized or privatised models.

For liberals the freedom of the individual is paramount after all.

This is classic liberalism. It has little place in liberalism of modern America.

Liberalism is what it is. Whether some can apply the terms correctly or not is not my problem. Essentially, applying the liberal brush to everything warranted or not simply creates confusion as to what exactly is being proposed and or objected to.

Is that really different for Conservatives?, its how we go about keeping that individual freedom that defines the two sides.
