I was wondering how much evidence do I need to send in for this N 400? On my removal of conditions I must have sent 200+ pages from the time we were married. Do they want proof of the last 3 years of marriage or since we have been married? What have some of you sent in?

I can't seem to get an answer to this. I read through the Guides, but the part that isn't very clear is in the part "Documents referring to you and your spouse". It mentions "tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children" (then has "or" followed by mention of IRS certified copies of tax returns or tax transcripts for three years). If someone choses THAT OPTION, how far back and how many statements are needed for the bank accounts and leases? For example, do I just send our current mortgage, or is it necessary to also include the lease for before our home purchase? Do we just need bank account statements spanning over the past year, or since he got here?

Hi Venusfire503 and Everyone,

I was one of those that chose the "tax returns (or lack of), bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children" option, and I assumed they meant 3 years worth of documents there, as they want to see a contiunous marital history since premament residency and I assume that over they years the USCIS can misplace and/or lose documents that I have sent for previous cases (AOS, I-751, etc.). So it's better to have everything sent (from those 3 years) and prepared beforehand for the N-400, than to have the case delayed for lack of evidence.

In other words, it's like "starting from scratch" in submitting the evidence all over again, assuming that the USCIS has not seen your case before and/or they want more information covering all those years. But then again, you have sent all that evidence already over the years, so it should not be hard for you to come up with such all over again.

So for statements and stuff like that, I would go back the 3 years, since permanent residency and since your marriage, just in case they ask for such. Just send a few from each year, and you should be ok. See my list in the above post, as to what and how much I sent in exactly there.

Lol...Well, why not send in as much as I can? Better to send them too much, than not enough at all and then having the case further delayed because of an rfe for not sending in enough evidence. I have the joint documents and have nothing to hide! Besides, if they want my $675...then they have to hard work for it, pay attention look at all the evidence! They waste my money and time, I waste theirs...It a good compromise...

As for the ROC, since you asked...This is what I sent in....(100+ pages of stuff)...

And yes, my I-751 case was approved (though after a 10 momth delay, as the USCIS was delaying I-751 cases overall, regardless of how much or how little evidence one sends in for the I-751 case)

Don't worry, it does get easier each time around, especially at this final stage of Citizenship! No more USCIS after this! Yahoo!

Hi AntD...your list is absolutely overwhelming, WOW!!! The 2 things I quoted below were the ones I did not attached with my application. At any rate, you're right, it's an information overload as I see it , but "better safe than sorry". Two thumbs up to you for gathering all those documents. I bet USCIS would have to spend a lot time to flip through those pages...and I believe they will ask you no further evidence to prove your marriage because to me, that's a whole lot to deal with. But great job though. Interesting.

N-400 = AOS + I-751 is the formula we used plus a utility bill when a friend of ours got an RFE at her interview because she didn't have one, surprise IO, made a quick call to our local electric company and wife walked in with it. You show me anywhere where the USCIS wants to see the poorest form of evidence anywhere like a utility bill when you can just call and add anyone's name on it. Nevertheless, our friend that was always six months ahead of us ended up seven months behind us.

Key word is joint, tax returns are a must, joint ownership with legal documents, home, vehicles, and even our dog. Also tossed in our state income taxes and property tax bill, her IO was interested in the property tax bill. Insurance, you don't get a family health insurance plan unless you can prove that relationship, as well as home, auto, and life. Bank accounts and credit cards. And any legal type paper that shows a common address, submitted copies of both our drivers' license as one example.

Can brag about sending in the absolute minimum and can get by if you have a good crystal ball telling you what mood your IO will be in the day of your interview. You can still gather evidence while waiting for your interview and bring that in. Purchased one of those folder like brief cases with everything organized so my wife could whip it out, her IO was a dog on this subject, but you just don't know. If you do get an RFE, expect your processing to take months longer.

Wife saw a 3 1/2" stack of evidence we already sent in, but her IO still wanted to see all of the originals, didn't feel that was right, we did pass both the AOS and the ten year card, but the same old ####### all over again.

My removal of conditions had 14 pages total. My N-400 will have less.

The objective is not to piss of the IO in charge by drowning them in meaningless paperwork that they want to throw up or just go home and open the file another month.

The goal is to provide documents that show that you have been a permanent resident for the time required and that you still are married to your husband. That's it. It's not a complicated approval process. If you meet the requirements and have not committed a crime and can read and speak English to some degree and can answer the few questions you will be approved.

Why showing USCIS that you are psycho? Send them exactly what's listed, plus a page or two or even three showing that you are still married, and that's it!
