Hello VJ members,

I just got married in Khanh Hoa, Vietnam and have the marriage certificate. I am however not sure which date I should use for "Date of Marriage" on form G325A because there are 2 dates on my cert: 9/24/2009 when the cert was signed by the Khanh Hoa province president and 9/25/2009 when the cert was registered into the Marriage Record which was also the date signed the cert. Our wedding celebration was on 9/13/2009. For legal purpose, I think 9/25/2009 is correct but am not sure.

Thanks.

Peter

I think it's up to you which date you want to use as long as you're consistent. To two people who married one another, the day they will remember is the date of their ceremony--not the date their paperwork got filed...but this is just my opinion...

Mark is right. The date both of you went and signed the certificate is the official date. The day that we went and sign the paper, the guy told me that this is our official marriage date from now on. So, I'm sure that the date on the certificate is the official marriage date.

Yes, you should answer date married in on your certificate of marriged with place lest hand where close your name and husband singed. Wedding's day just for memory, not real date of married . Im sure and agree with Huong and Phung.

I asked my husband and he kinda clarified this topic for me...kinda... :P

There are couples who register their marriages before and after. Because we're religious and shared our wedding with our family and friends, we would recognize our marriage date as the date of the celebrations...5/24.

If you are non religious and/or chose to use your registered date, you can. --Might I mention though if you have any pictures taken, you may have some "easy" explaining to do... Also, if you do this, I agree that you use the date that you and your spouse signs...

Just be consistent with the date you use and goodluck in your quest! :)

Our wedding solemn was in a church on 9/12/09. But we've decided to use 9/25/09 (date we signed the cert) as our marriage date on paperwork.

We will go CR1 route, not K3. It's very hard to be apart from your loved one but we are hoping to be together someday.

For those close family members, I would go use the date on your wedding. For any paper work or job related, etc... I would use what's on the Marriage Cert. I agree on being consistent. You can show the family members your wedding photos and videos but not to those who you're applying for something.

Date of the ceremony seems logical.

My marriage certificate has this statement below

"Giay chung nhan ket hon nay co gia tri ke tu ngay ghi vao So dang ky ket hon"

translation

"This certificate is effective since the date of filling of marriage registry"

Based on statement above, the date that entered into Marriage Registry is the official marriage date.

For you case, it would be 9/25/2009.
