Evangelicals scare me. On a different note, though - couldn't they fill their quiver FASTER if they adopted, instead?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The poorest nations are having the most children. I thought that was old news.

In 20 years they will be at our doorsteps claiming we other them something because they are poor. Better yet, we will still have people living here, in 1st world countries, saying that well we should help them out in their own countries and they won't come here. Good idea actually. For a start, how about not having 20 times the birth rate of rich 1st world nations?

Then again, it's the same problem here within poor communities. I get to pay for all of these teenager/unwed children but I didn't even get the pleasure of a ####. At least send uncle boo a fathers day card. After all, I am paying for your sorry azz.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

They "scare" you, and why is that because they have a big family or because they put religion in such a prominent place?

Well, if they are feeding and taking care of all these kids on their own dime...what's to complain about, I bet there kids aren't even taking up seats in the Public school.

These people seem like the ideal family I would want in my neighborhood.

According to the article, many of these families do adopt.... so find another fault.

Unfortunately I agree with MC, there are not many of these Families.... in fact, I don't know of one.

Prominent place? What, like public institutions rather than the church where it would seem to belong?

Maybe these people should consider adopting children from the purple countries instead of making their own.

Sounds to me like they have their hands full already, why don't some of these 1 and 2 kid families do some adopting, they seem like the selfish ones if we are gonna put the label on anyone.

Anyway, I guess you missed this part of the story:

<<<

Simply filling the world with white Christians is not what motivated either the Sanfords or the McDonalds - for them having large families was a matter of faith.

The Sanfords have adopted children from around the world.

Had the oddest conversation during my OB clinical today. She was a multipara pt who was wanting a tubal. Very adamant about it. But when we asked her about other b/c options (required before we can send 'em home with baby)...she had NO IDEA what b/c was. "Pills? Shot? Condom?" Nopers. Wanting the tubal was the odd part, actually. We have fairly high African and Latino populations in my area and many of them just don't know what b/c is.

Also, does anyone here actually watch the show on a regular basis?

The younger kids are all WILD, which is to be expected because they are basically totally raised and disciplined by their older siblings. The older siblings only homeschool 2-4 hours a day using some internet course because they have the burden of chores & kid raising. (Especially the girls.) They don't go to public school, they aren't allowed to date per se, and they don't seem to have any friends outside of the clan -- so these fourteen-fifteen-sixteen year olds are basically stuck corralling the hoards of little kids, doing dishes and laundry and cooking (again -- the girls.) The gender division really bothers me, especially because the kids aren't getting an adequate education or much exposure to the outside world which means that even if they DO want to move outside of the clan...it's going to be hard.

Also, I'd like to see how loving and harmonious the family would be if one of the kids came out as gay. Or even if one of the girls decided that SHE wanted to be a lawyer/doctor. (See the education episode for this.)

You're kidding, right? How is that possible?
