after dating my fiance for 3 months i invited her to come to my country but weeks before she came i asked her to marry me on the phone i felt it was the right moment and to show her how serious i am about her which was great cause both of us felt the timing was great ,when she finally came to ghana i had the opportunity to ask her again to marry me and took a vow to be faithful with each other but i didnt give her a wedding ring cause the wedding ring she wants was expensive and she knows i cant afford so she didnt bother much about me not being able to buy that type of ring for her ,she told me that is the only expensive thing she could ever want from me and nothing more and she is a good woman she deserves it......ok now here is the catch i will be going for an interview soon ..what if the CO ask me when did i get engaged to my fiance ?will it be in my favor to say on the phone or to say while she was in my country .fellow friends i know you have some experience to shear help me make the right decision on what to say that wont make the CO ask me alot of questions on that .

How romantic!

Let me preface this by saying that I am not very well versed with the K-1 process, but I think they've likely asked for this information before the interview point and would be testing you on previous answers here.

Whatever you say in the interview must match what you said on previous documentation (i.e application/petition).

What did your fiancee say? You'll need to review your documentation carefully so you're familiar with its contents-- the 'bona fide relationship' section in particular.

Good luck!

My SO proposed by email and that was good enough at the time of interview :)

BUT make sure the two of you pick ONE and ONLY reference that one.

Good advice from all here. I just want to add that my fiance did not give me a ring and we did not have physical evidence of an engagement. But, we are both in sync about the wonderful day when he asked me to be his wife - that's what we wrote in our documentation and that is what he described in his interview.

Regarding an expensive ring, our money is very tight right now even though we would both love to have an exceptional ring to display on our fingers when we are married. However, we agreed that the most important thing at this time is to get him here and we are going to have a modest wedding - so that is where all of our money is going at this time. We plan to get settled, save more money for a number of things, including nice rings. If we are lucky, we will be able to do so in a year. In the meantime, we have both purchased modestly priced wedding bands as a display of our marriage. Just wanted to share our story. I wish the best in your process.

I disagree with this. You need to tell the whole story. If you proposed twice, tell them that you proposed twice and give them the details of both. When you start to selectively tell your story you leave room for inconsistencies.

My husband proposed more than once - one time over the phone. I wrote about all in the letter I had to write so that they were aware of our whole story. We got the visa without any problem.

Honest is the best policy.

There's nothing wrong with proposing twice.

You want to be totally honest with immigration. If your honest about everything, then you don't have to worry about 'did I tell them this' or 'did I tell them that'. Giving them two different answers to the same question at any point in the process could give them reason enough to think you are lying. Therefore, denial.

Just be honest. You won't have to worry about anything.
