OK i'm a little confused about what to do here. I've called a couple of police stations here (Geelong, Victoria) and they seem a little confused too.

I know i need to get a name and fingerprint check done. So do i go to a station, get finger printed and fill in a form and they send it off? Do i get the fingerprints from them and then send if off somewhere myself? I've tried searching the forums for a better idea but i can't find out exactly what goes on here.

i was told by victoria police that you need to attend the police station in flinders st in melbourne to get your fingerprints done and a national police check also. the national police check is a form to fill out, which they will give you, then the fingerprints get done at flinders st along with it. its about $138 by memory??!

they will tell you when you call them, theyre really friendly.

i WAS going to get fingerprints at my local police station, but they told me in flinders st at the head office that you can no longer get fingerprints in your local station, they have to be done at flinders st...

so anyway here is the phone number.. call them and query it. maybe because you are from geelong, you can get your fingerprints in geelong then send the form too from there. but i would suggest doing it all at flinders st if you can koz it takes long enough as it is to get it back, and you dont want extra time for putting it in the post rather than handing it over the counter in the city.

it took them about 4 weeks to give mine back, but it was because i rang after ten business days, which is apparently the turnaround for the certificate to be sent back to you, and they STILL hadnt processed it... so ring them right on the ten business days to follow up.. otherwise you will wait ages!

ph : (for appointments in flinders st)

Fingerprints

To make an appointment to have your fingerprints taken, telephone 1300 881 596 between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The fingerprint office is located at:

Victoria Police Customer Service Centre

Lower Concourse Level, World Trade Centre

637 Flinders Street

Melbourne, VIC, 3005

(entrance via Siddeley Street).

Office hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

note - you cant pay cash there, only credit card or eftpos.

also.. here is the link to the form if you want to fill it out online then take it in with you for your appointment. i did that and i was in and out in ten minutes, once they had done my fingerprints and i paid the bill.

go to the bottom of this page http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=274 and click on "online application form for the national police certificate"

hope this helps! msg me if you want more info.
