Regardless of whether our President was the most deserved candidate to win the Nobel Peace Prize, the Obama haterz are jumping on his case over this when he had no personal influence on the decision. To them, nothing tied to him in any way will make them pause from hating the President, even for a moment to congratulate him. The hatred runs deep in their bones.

I'm sure you have would been leading the standing ovation had Bush won. LOL

There is possibly (OK...maybe definitely) some truth to your statement. In your statement though you do seem to concede that Obama wasn't really worthy of winning this award.

However, I think that alot of people might be equally outraged if 'insert any name' here had won who wasn't truly deserving...so lets not deflect from that...because I think that alot of people can use natural reasoning (without political bias) to determine that something went screwy here...

What I've said all along is that I don't like to second guess judges or committees who make these types of choices. Norway seems to have a traditional way of selecting that committee and the process itself seems very traditional. I'll admit, I was surprised and I agree with what the President himself has said. But outraged? If I want to be outraged over contests, I'd watch beauty pageants more closely. :P

There are scores of Nobel Peace Price laureates that received the price for efforts that either had yet to bear fruit or that never really would. Desmond Tutu, for example, received the prize in 1984 for his work to end Apartheid in South Africa - the end of Apartheid, however, actually occured some 10 years later in 1994. Woodrow Wilson received the prize for founding the League of Nations which never actually accomplished it's goals and ended up defunct. There are such more samples to be had - the point is that it is quite dishonest to pretend that only those with a lifetime of accomplishments have thus far been awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize. Effort has been recognized throughout the history of this award.

Barry was president for less than 2 weeks when he was nominated. He hadn't done anything worthy of this prize then except be Black and elected president. What is there for Americans to be proud of a US president winning on the basis of that or what he talks about but does nothing about? This is nothing more than rewarding him for hot air. If that is all it takes to be lauded, that's all he would have to do, but I expect Americans want action, not just talk.

I'm thrilled to be an American who enjoys freedom of speech and opinion, not a guy who bends over and grabs his ankles for Barry, like you two continue to do.

Steve marches, lockstep, with the party line. All hail Obama!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

He was nominated at that time perhaps for the positive impact he had on the way the world looked at the US as a result of his successful campaign. Odder things happened with Nobel Peace Prize nominations seeing that both Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler were at some point nominated for the award. You're clearly lacking perspective. And if there were rewards for hot air, you'd have a stack of them.

Absolutely. The world would be so much of a better place if Bush would have governed in a way that would have made him eligible for consideration.

I would have applauded big time.

Granted it's not Obama's fault that he was selected, but it the area of warfare he has pretty much continued

what Bush started. Probably going to even step up things a notch or two in Afghanistan, so where the Nobel people got the idea he is for peace, beats me.

Bottom line he was an unworthy choice and anyone that thinks he wasn't is delusional.

Continues what Bush started? How is that? Did Bush not oppose a timetable for withdrawl from Iraq? And don't we have just that timetable now that Obama has set it? The whole "war on terror" garbage has essentially been dropped from everyday White House language. And I wouldn't be so sure just yet that Afghanistan isn't going to be wound down sooner rather than later. The latter remains to be seen and I sure hope that the administration will have the guts to redefine the effort entirely and get our men and women home as soon as possible. If the Nobel Prize award accomplishes nothing but that, and I am sure that this is now part of the deliberations going on over the next few weeks, it will have been more than worthy.
