I know this is a basic (possibly silly) question - but I want to understand things about the K3 better.

Is it a requirement for you and your significant other to be married at the time the K3 is initially filed?

That is, are there any flexible options within the K3 that allow you to get married sometime after K3 is initially filed (or during the K3 visa petition process itself)?

Or must you actually be married to a foreigner as a requirement in order to start the process of filing for a K3?

Thanks in advance for the help !

It is the requirement.

You need a copy of marriage certificate when you file both I-130 and I-129F.

I know this is a basic (possibly silly) question - but I want to understand things about the K3 better.

Is it a requirement for you and your significant other to be married at the time the K3 is initially filed? YES, IT IS A SPOUSAL VISA.

That is, are there any flexible options within the K3 that allow you to get married sometime after K3 is initially filed (or during the K3 visa petition process itself)? NO, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE MARRIED RIGHT AWAY, APPLY FOR THE K1 VISA FOR A FIANCE.

Or must you actually be married to a foreigner as a requirement in order to start the process of filing for a K3? WHY ELSE WOULD YOU APPLY FOR A K3 VISA? READ THE GUIDES FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING.

Thanks in advance for the help !

Yes, it's an absolute requirement. On the other hand, K3 is virtually obsolete. Follow the CR1 guide.
