Right back at you! I hated those black cat licorice candies. Did anyone ever eat those things? Candy bars were always good. Hated Coffee Crisp and Kit-Kat (not enough chocolate) but I loved O'Henry.

Deal but you have to take those black cat, not quite licorice-not quite toffee orange and black "candies" off my hands. I think I figured out what they actually are. Take heavily used engine oil, leave out in the sun to dry out the moisture, now scrape the goop at the bottom onto a cookie sheet, mix in tire scrapings and road tar and bake. Package it and dump it on unsuspecting kids. That's what those things are, I think that they are called MacAdam 'cause the taste like road tar to me. Ever wonder why they never go bad.

Sure do. It made the gum that came with hockey cards taste good. I can't decide which tasted worse, Thrills or SEN-SEN gum. I remember being told, by a middel-aged adult, that kids in Chicago would eat it just to prove how tough they were. I'm guessing that this was in the 40s-70s. I tried a piece and spat it out.I guess I wasn't tough enough as a kid. It tasted horrible but it was a breath mint/chewing gum for smokers so I don't know whether on not they tasted anything.

I remember this paranoia around halloween about apples and razorblades inside.... I wasn't allowed to eat apples that I got and my parents would go through the candy before I was allowed to eat anything....

I remember that a friends paranoid mom in the neighborhood took the kids candy to some doctors office because he was doing x-ray screening of the candy for needles and razors!!!! All the rest of us in the neighborhood made fun of them!!! But thier mom was one of the super over=protective types and the kids were never allowd out of the yard!!!

My folks always went through our candy too. I think at least half of that was due to Mom wanting to steal some for her own stash, though...
