wowwww..... So, I was busy today with Thanksgiving, and didn't get to say anything regarding the attack against me (I appreciate those of you who CAN recognize the -innocent- intentions of that costume). I'm sorry to bring it up in this thread again, but still wanted to at least have some response to it.

I just wanted to say that I'm NOT racist... if I was then I guess one of my good friends wouldn't be Mexican, and I wouldn't want to be moving to an area of the U.S. with a HUGE Mexican population... Sorry you were SO offended, but I do think that says more about YOU than it does about me, since you were so eager to press judgment. This wasn't a costume choice intended to cause any grief or anger or reaction from anyone. It was a fun, low-cost, choice for 3 friends to be able to do as a group before one of them (me) moves away. As far as I'm concerned, the costume we've chosen is a media CHARACTER... we're not even dressing up like the Three Amigos did exactly (as you mentioned, they dressed up like a mariachi band), but we're 3 friends... that's the point. But I guess the reason I CAN see that, is because I'm NOT doing it because of racism of any kind. We didn't go into the store with the intent to pick out a costume that was offensive... but were excited to find something we could do together, and for really cheap (sombrero, poncho, accessories... done).

I hope you're able to find some non-denominational, racially-neutral costume if you choose to dress up for Hallowe'en. I won't be changing my costume choice, because again, our intent is 100% NOT racist. Sorry you can't see it that way.

I love black licorice. And it's the only real licorice flavour.

I never really liked rockets either.

They were such a pointless candy.

I dont like Licorice at all, either flavor, or rockets....or those horrible toffees that come in the orange and black wrappers..I did love bags of chips and cans of pop, and chocolate bars. I used all the rest to bribe my sister to clean my room cuz she likes candy much more than I do lol.

Ugh, we had one that gave out dental floss...skipped his house the next year  I think the best I remember was this one guy who had a haunted house in his backyard every year. It was amazing to go through and you didnt get candy till you got to the end. He had spaghetti brains, gooey eyeballs and stuff...it was gross and fun :D

LUV YOU GUYS!

Right back at you! I hated those black cat licorice candies. Did anyone ever eat those things? Candy bars were always good. Hated Coffee Crisp and Kit-Kat (not enough chocolate) but I loved O'Henry.

Wasn't prepared for where this thread went. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

Tell me about it. I guess I shouldn't mention the fact that I'm dressing up as the Frito Bandito for Halloween. :bonk:

you can be an #### and say whatever you want, but i wont ever stand by and say nothing when i feel me or my people are being insulted. obviously you find this hilarious and that says a lot more about you than it does me. end of story.

You make ridiculous statements and then wish to invoke closure. Hmmm. I guess your "position" is not as tenable as you wish us to believe. It speaks volumes about you sir (I use that word with the utmost comtempt) and your lack of civility that you resort to name calling hysterics. I had no idea that the people of Mexico were a homogeneous group and that you were their sole representative. My friends in Vera Cruz will be thrilled to know that you are defending them. I'm not the one that compared a pseudo-Mexican stereotype with blackface minstrels. Save us the righteous indignation, this churlish attitude cheapens the discussion when real instances of discrimination arise. Now do us all a favour and take your own advice and end your postings in this thread.

Bravo. Bogart, I also believe your attempt to argue this point with any validity ended upon you calling yourselves "filthy mexican". You can't demand everyone respect you for some reason that you cant explain and then throw in a derogitory comment like that (which only you made...no one else in here came anywhere near that) and expect people to be even partially sympathetic to the point you are trying to make and missed completely. As I said before, telling people WHY you find something offensive instead of just telling them it is and being royally bitchy about it will probably go over better and actually get your point across without pissing off a bunch of people who made a thread of fun costumes.

Well said.

I miss Hallowe'en.

As a kid, I used to have so much fun dressing up and heading out into the neighbourhood (but never before dark, oi, kids with their 4pm start-times are so greedy!).

I loved getting the little baggies - the ones that someone actually took the time to fill up with random candies, you know? It was usually a long shot that there'd be something decent in there, but you never knew until you got home and actually pulled everything apart. Gotta love the mystery.

LEAST favourite candies... those stupid popeye sticks. So disgusting. And licorice. And... oh boy, those toffee things Danu mentioned. Those things were awful!

I do remember, at probably 15 or so (last year out and about), my entire group dressed up and went through our neighbourhood for a couple of hours. We gathered all of the teeny bags of chips that we could, returned to one friend's house, dumped all of the chips - at once - into the largest bowls we could find, and chowed down during some random slasher film. It was rather... erm, unpleasant... to mix cheesies, ketchup and dill pickle chips all in one mouthful, but hey...

I do recall sneaking off with a fair bit of chocolate from that excursion. Trick-or-treating with a large portion of males who don't enjoy chocolate = Always.

I had a dentist in my neighbourhood who gave us the toothbrush, toothpaste and the disclosing tablets. He was right across the street from a guy who put on this huge haunted mansion every year, so it was cool. The discloseing tablets were great for the flesh-easting zombie (sorry, living impaired) look.

People in the South have dental problems, do tell.... :innocent:
