Hmmmm, interesting discussion of ME politics. I am an Arab, a semite, a Muslim, a Palestinian, with a Ph.D in the history and cultures of the ME. Scandal dismissed me as a terrorist on a flimsy premise and has not offered an apology to me. But then, he doesn't want to have to discuss this issue with someone who has not only a scholarly knowledge of the subject, but the same type of personal interest he has. I have family in Gaza and in Jeruselum, where we once had land before it was taken away. My family has been there since before the state of Israel was established. None of us are from imports from Europe.

While I can also support a two-state solution, the bottom line is, Jewish Israelis have the momentum due to lobbying and better public relations. There are indeed Jewish terrorists, and there were during the zionist struggle for the state. In fact, terrorists were among the early leaders of the Israeli government. As they say, one person's terrorist is another person's state hero. This is the history that few are aware of.

And who are you calling honkey? White people? What other derogatory names do you know? I think we are better than that.

This doesnt have to turn into a hate thread.

OMG!!

There's many in my house too... I'm one of them!!! I'm a muslim!!

But wait a minute here... hmm. Why do I work as a professional? respected professional career??? And I'm educated... that does'nt make sense either... I have friends that are both muslim and non-muslim, infact my best friend is non-muslim...

Infact, I know of a few people who have converted from Islam... They are walking talking okay, and everyone is fine, nothing happened to them, they are good people. People convert to Islam and people convert from Islam, just like any religion.

And to the person who stated "convert or die".. I can't stop laughing, cause ISLAM DOES NOT TEACH THAT!!! You might wanna crack open the quran and have look sometime for yourself there's a surah in there that basically states... I dont worship what you worship and you don't worship which I worship, so you live by your peaceful laws and I will live by mine peacefully.

There's radicalists in every religion!

Do I think we can all get along? Heck Yea... I don't give a ####### what religion you practice, if your a good person, your good in my book..

Great perspective from kaus&Sanu with good humor as well

It is interesting, and forgive me for being behind on this thread so I might be in the wrong thread, but I believe that one poster stated that non-Muslims were 'not allowed' to read the Koran. However, as a Catholic, each and every time that I visit a Masjid/Mosque in my area, they give me a free copy of this...

I'm just sayin'...I read it...

Yes Enraptured...it is good to know.

But...back to the reading of the Koran. I have read it...multiple times. My question to you is metaphysical...are you saying that as a 'non-Muslim' I cannot read the Koran? I read it as a chant...but if you are saying it is not for Muslim readers and that I therefore cannot read it metaphysically, then I can respect and appreciate that...

But I need your direction...

What say ye, my dearest

no, mark ...lol, let me reiterate. you can read the translation of the quran, no problem. if you know arabic, that's cool, but then you'd have to go through this cleansing ritual, which all muslims do before they read the quran. you basically prepare for it as a muslim would before they pray. it's called ablution or wudhu in arabic: http://www.wikihow.com/Perform-Wudu

check this out.

basically, the idea is that since it's a holy book, you should be clean as well.

im probably not the right person to ask...i'm still learning about islam myself. my family wasn't very religious in the past and i went to church for a few years as a kid...i just started getting into it more these past few years...and this was after i studied most of the other major faiths in detail and came to the conclusion that islam was the best choice for me....

i have been reading books from these guys...they're pretty nice, i met their imam a year ago at a wedding: http://www.bmf.org

My beloved Enraptured,

Yes, this helps. And it is as I expected. I have many questions. I Islam is a religion sanctified by God (as it is by the Torah: Genesis), then why can't I understand this teaching? I respect the Arab position where it was 'wondered' why a Savior was not sent to them specifically...but...........................................I would like to read your book. And, I think I have.

My dearest, let me first say that I believe my post above requires a 'non-reply'. Silence is always the best answer (as Christ exhibited), and I am willing to accept that your Book is for your people only...

Peace to you Sister,

Mark

there are many paths to God, and if you believe that what you have is right, then hopefully God will see what is in your heart and bless you....accordingly, same goes for me, i hope....

in the end, religion is about faith, isn't it....we all just believe that our path is the right one...and according to this, i think and hope that God/Allah will have mercy on us all....

i can understand even the agnostic and atheist POVs, for they don't see God and any proof of His existence, so they don't believe...well in the end, goodness prevails no matter what your path is...and as long as we are all good and help one another and look past petty differences, all is good. :)

btw, didnt really understand this remark: "I respect the Arab position where it was 'wondered' why a Savior was not sent to them specifically." can you elaborate?

religion in my culture is a very private matter and people do not try to probe too much in what you believe...i have christian relatives and we all meet up and it's a non-issue....but where i am from, many types of faiths have passed by and that is why it's not important....my fob spouse is more liberal than i am and he was born in the middle east, go figure...

thank you for your kind responses, mark :star:

Dearest Enraptured - of course God sees and blesses the beauty of your wonderful heart. You have done the best of things: searching to bring God to your life and to that end I am alway with you....

And, as a final note, I love your avatar! Cats blessings to you as well! (My wife has recently said 'OK' to cat...but I have yet to get Cat! <haha>)

Mark,

You can read the Quran. It is ok.

I just thought you would like to know that not all Arabs are Muslim. There are also Arab Christians and Jews.

Salam (peace)
