I had the same experience when we tried to add my name on utility bills.

As others say, the SSN system banks or other institutions (ex. utility companies, FAFSA) uses get updated monthly and that's the cause of the error.

I am not sure about banks, but bringing my physical SS card was good enough for gas and power bills.

Immigration Process (DCF Japan)

08/06/2008 I-130 petition at Tokyo, Japan

08/13/2008 I-130 approved

| Waited until we were ready to move back

07/13/2009 IV interview at Tokyo, Japan

07/15/2009 IV(IR-1) in hand

Post-DCF

07/29/2009 POE at Las Vegas

08/17/2009 GC(10yrs) received

- naturalization in May 2012 or

- GC replacement in February 2019

just an update friday I went back t the bank to see if this time my SSN number worked and it did we had no problems so, i guess it's just a matter of time for the systems to update

09-25-2009 Applied for SSN

09-25-2009 received interview letter for 10-22-2009 at 10:30 am

10-03-2009 received SSN

10-05-2009 applied for CA ID

10-15-2009 received CA id

10-22-2009 Interview APPROVED

10-29-2009 received welcome letter and I130 NOA2

10-31-2009 Received conditional GC
