100-year-old woman strangled in Mass. nursing home

By Associated Press Writer | October 7, 2009

BOSTON --A 100-year-old woman who was found dead last month in a Massachusetts nursing home had been strangled.

Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter said Wednesday that Elizabeth Barrow was found dead in her bed during a routine check Sept. 24 by staff at Brandon Woods Nursing home in Dartmouth. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.

A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press that Barrow was found with a plastic bag over her head in a room she shared with a woman in her 90s. There were no obvious signs of a struggle. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to comment on an ongoing investigation.

A nursing home official did not immediately return a call for comment.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Quite seriously - this sounds like it could have been euthanasia. 100 years old, no sign of struggle.... perhaps she just thought enough was enough and asked someone to do the deed.

It's bs. There are no tough people in the Northeast.

You're right. The Patriots D line are a bunch of sissies.

We'll find out Sunday in Denver.

Back to topic. I imagine in Australia killing someone that was 100 would be a misdemeanor since first degree murder only gets a 5 year prison term. If you're gonna kill someone, Australia is where to do it.

Sounds like a really great place to be a perp.

I'm not so sure it's a great deal for the victims though

Honestly, I don't really understand it, but I'm sure that in some way it must be better to let murderers off with a light sentence. I mean everything is better there, so they must be onto something concerning crime and punishment. Too bad your message box is full, I could send you some football stuff.

I just heard an update on this on the news. They now suspect her roommate, who had been complaining that the deceased had too many visitors.

That wouldn't surprise me - nursing homes are a bit like school playgrounds like that.
