too bad until now we haven't filed for a change of status yet. we just don't have the money for that. we are broke, real broke. it's almost 1 year now. now, my question is, is it possible for me to apply for a temporary work permit only for now so that i could work prior to changing my status from k1 to permanent residence? another option that we are considering is for me to take the NCLEX. What do u guys think? Thanks for all your response and advise.

The temp work permit is what you get through applying to adjust status.

as far as i know there is nothing you can do other than apply for AOS and wait for your EAD, beg borrow plea from everyone and anyone you know!! do anything you can to get the money (legally of course) my husband and i had to do the same, once we did my AOS i got my EAD within months. best of luck.

Yeah, it would be best if you can borrow money for AOS.

Once you get a job as a RN, it is so easy to pay the money back.

DO NOT inform USCIS (by asking if you can get a temporary work permit/EAD) that you have not applied for AOS yet because you don't have the money, as of now you are out of status so if they find out, you'll be sent home.

if you can't get the money yet, then apply for AOS when you can.

before taking the exam, make sure your immigration status is not going to be asked in any of the forms or you'll just get yourself into trouble.

you should start saving little by little now instead of waiting to get the whole amount available.

I doubt NCLEX is free.

Yes you can get an EAD, but it will cost you $340. The EAD fee is included in the $1010 of the AOS fee, so you will pay it the $340 a second time when you adjust status.

A Filipina friend of ours did this to pay for the AOS fees.

The NCLEX examination is $200 plus fees for any licenses.

I'm not sure if that's right. I ws under the impression that if you are married, you have to apply for AoS (which, as you said, includes the EAD). Hence, you would not be able to aply for EAD alone.

I could be wrong tho.

That's not true. If they are married, she can stay in the US legally. Without status, yes, but she won't be deported home

Give us the links, please, I think everyone will be grateful and me, too.

Following this logics, everyone who got married and didn't apply for the GC within three months should be deportred. Did I understand you correctly?
