NVC is being a critter up my ####### about our case. I got another RFE (even though I was vindicated with my grandmother's I864, those bastards). They state that proof of my domicile was missing. Well.. uhm.. no #######?

Anyway, I've written a letter stating what has happened (my moving to Canada in 2005) and what our intentions are and what our domicile proof will be by interview time (I don't have the resources right now to go opening things like cell phone accounts right now). I've also included a blurb regarding the requirements for domicile (part c: intention of good faith reestablishment).

I'm not sure where to go from here. Any advice?

I had that same RFE, I guess no one told you that you have to prove domicile at the NVC stage - but you do. I did send proof to NVC, with the I-864 - but they wanted more.

All those things I wrote in that thread - that applies to NVC - not the consulate per se. Now as you know some people have to provide more info at the interview stage - but really it should happen before that.

Oh not at all. I don't know if you ever read the blurb I wrote but I didn't have to do things like get a cell phone contract etc etc, as you mentioned.

In fact my whole 'proof of intent to reestablish domicile' was free!

I shd have called the thread, trailmix's blurb on free domicile!

I did read it - I have it bookmarked, actually.

But is really a letter from my grandmother, opening a bank account, and a letter from my employer stating why they laid me off is because of my move, is that really enough?

Maybe?

I can only tell you what we did, which is more than that - which of course will vary from person to person - I mean for instance I wasn't working so I had no letter from an employer.

Get a moving quote

Where do you live now, do you own your house, are you selling it?

From what we have seen here the most important piece of information seems to be having a place of residence to go to. Can you have your Grandmother sign a letter to that effect (or whomever you are going to live with when you arrive).

We are renting. I forgot to mention moving quote (even though we're getting rid of all of our furniture, leaving misc. stuff with my aunt, and only taking what we "need" and driving). I mentioned a letter from my grandmother.

I agree. Send the letter and be careful with your wording and whatnot. Do you still have an American DL? Voters' registration?

No - you have to surrender your license when you get your BC one. I still have my voter's registration card from when I lived in WA, but I did not vote in the last election.

My lease agreement letter is basically going to say that we will be staying with her for an unknown period of time until we get on our feet and that we will be paying her 50% utilities.

True. Bren had to surrender his UT license.

Send the voter's registration card.

Even though I haven't lived at that place since 2005? :P
