So, I was getting all my documents together and looking on the embassy web site and I noticed it said " I-134 must be notarized" Is this still true? there are no instructions or even a place on the form for a notary stamp.... Any info would be appreciated. Also, any tips or advice on the interview (besides telling me to read the guides) would be awesome. I was wondering also, will the embassy send me anything to notify me of the interview? Janna is still here visiting with me (she is going home on Oct. 9th) so as far as we know our petition left NVC on the 22nd of Sept.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Yes, the I-134 must be notarized. Don't worry about the lack of stamp placement, the notary will be able to handle it.

The best tip I can offer for the interview is just to have your fiancee be prepared without being over-prepared. Don't load her down with hundreds of photos and 6-inch binders filled with printed emails and chat logs. Send her with 5-10 photos at most, and enough emails or chat logs to show a representative time period. Make sure she has everything the consulate website says to have, with whatever translations are necessary. The embassy will send a packet to your fiancee's address in Russia with instructions, forms, and an invitation letter.

Best of luck to you both!

Consulate-specific requirements trump any other requirements. Get it notarized. Follow the Embassy's instructions to the letter.

Do you see where the DS-156K form is in Russian and must be completed in Russian?

Follow the instructions on the website to the letter.

Can you see your case number posted on the Embassy's online interview schedule? If not then they haven't gotten that far yet. Once you see it posted she ought to receive the packet in about a week, but sometimes they are so swift to update the online listing.

# Financial documents from the petitioner – a US citizen: please note, that Affidavit of Support (form I-134) is not required, but may be requested. The document must be notarized. Please submit financial documents to show that the applicant will not become a public charge in the United States. Such documents may include, but are not limited to:

- Most recent year tax returns (form 1040) or tax transcripts from IRS

- Copy of bank account

- Earnings and leave statement

- W-2 forms

- Letter from employer

I sent my I-134 only with my signature and not notarized. However, I sent plenty of additional information above that validated the information on the I-134. There was absolutely no problem during her interview. I included:

- Tax transcripts (three years)

- Earnings statements (two months)

- Signed I-134 -> not notarized

No interview on the embassy site yet :(

I'm really grateful that Janna is able to be here with me so that the information we put together can all be sorted out together and not over the phone or computer.

Tomorrow, I drive Janna to the airport so she can go back home...again. Hopefully, she will be using her K-1 instead of B-2 next time.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Again, you all have been a valuable resource to both Janna and myself. We deeply appreciate everyone's help, I know sometimes questions on VJ can be redundant and simple. It's nice to have nice ppl to turn to. Thanks!

but may be requested. The document must be notarized.

So my advice would be to send it and get it notarized. I always err on the side of caution.

I like to err on the side of comfort

Anyway, the consulate told me that if anything was missing I could quickly send it via email ... even a notarized document.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but showing up to the interview without the I-134 shows a real lack of better judgment. Notarize it or not, that's your choice, but seriously why would you delay the process for a form that takes all of minutes to complete?

Also, wanted to ask. Does NVC ever send you a confirmation letter. e-mail, singing telegram about you case being forwarded?

I received a letter from them stating that they had received it with my case number. The letter said in about a week they would forward it. It actually took them three weeks to forward it. When I called they stated that they were doing a little AP.

Yes, they usually send out a letter. It will include your MOS case #. The letter doesn't include any information that you can't get by calling the NVC help line.

OK, I have called them twice so far. They said the case left on the 22nd and was forwarded to the embassy, they gave me the "MOS" number. I just have not received anything in the mail or e-mail yet.

Mine didn't actually show up for quite a while, maybe 3-4 weeks, and many report never receiving it. As long as you know the MOS # there's no need to actually have the letter except as another item for your VisaJourney Scrapbook.
