Hello All,

My wife has her interview date Nov 2nd. She has been studying the 100 questions found on the website and also the study packet she got when got her fingerprints taken.

Someone told me that the questions were to be done on a computer but some are saying they are taken orally. I just want to know what is the format of the test and how many questions are asked.

And is there anything else those questions needs to know. She knows how to speak/write english so that isn't a problem.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Two years ago the questions were in person.

English. Your English skills will be tested in the following ways:

Reading. To test your ability to read in English, you must read one sentence, out of three sentences, in a manner suggesting to the USCIS officer that you understand the meaning of the sentence.

Writing. To test your ability to write in English, you must write one sentence, out of three sentences, in a manner that would be understandable as written to the USCIS officer.

Speaking. Your ability to speak English is determined by your answers to questions normally asked by USCIS officers during the naturalization eligibility interview regarding the information on your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.

Civics. During your interview, the USCIS officer will ask you to orally answer a set of civics questions. You must answer 6 out of 10 civics questions correctly to achieve a passing score. The list of questions can be found below or see the links to the left.

If you are searching for study materials for the old naturalization test, see the “Study Materials for the Old Naturalization Test” link to the right.

When I had my citizenship exam/interview the end of August, it really was a one on one interview with an Immigrations Officer. She gave me a sheet of paper with 3 questions on it and asked me to read the first question. The question was one of the ones from the Civics exam. She then gave me a sheet of paper and asked me to write the sentence she dictated. The sentence was actually the answer to the question that I read aloud. She then asked me 6 of the Civics exam questions and wrote down my responses. Since I got all six right she didn't ask any more but she could have asked up to 10 questions, of which I needed to get 6 right. The rest of the interview was spent going through the application form itself and answering the questions on the form itself. She then went through the attachments with the application and checked everything off on a list she had with her. That was basically it. She said I was approved and asked if I was available on a date 2 weeks ahead for the Oath ceremony. I said I was so she had me wait after the interview and they printed up my oath letter and gave it to me before I left.

If your wife has been studying the 100 questions then she should be fine. It will be one of those questions that they ask her to read and the answer that they will ask her to write. I doubt that there will be any requirement to use a computer for the questions. Good luck at her interview.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
