So last monday I recieved an email from USCIS saying my EAD has been approved and my card is being made.

I entered the US as a tourist and got married here and then applied for AOS. My tourist visa has been expired for a few months though... My story is long and complicated, please don't think I'm trying to cut corners and get ahead of everyone. We are trying to do this correctly.

Anyway...

My question is:

The only valid thing I would have is my passport and the EAD card. Can I apply for a SS#? I need to work asap to help with bills! And here in Las Vegas, working is so regulated! They require 3 diferent goverment issued cards to even get considered at any hotel or restaurant.

Also... Can I change my name now to my married name? How?

I looked at the guides but I'm still not sure I will have the proper documentation to apply for a SS#

Any help will be greatly apretiated!

Thanks

What name did you use when you applied for AOS? married name?

You will get the Social security card in the name that is on your ead.

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

If you are married then dont you already use your married name to sign for everything? Thats how you change your name.. just sign your name.

If you have cards / IDs then get them changed to your married name by using your Marriage Certificate. Bring it with you to SSN office DMV etc everywhere you apply for ID or cards.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

See, these are things we don't have a clue about.

When we got married our marriage cert has my maiden name because they said that I get my name changed when I apply for my SS#. But I can't apply for a SS# without and EAD... Right?

I applied for my AOS with my maiden name because my only ID is my passport and I thought that that was the name they wanted to see on the paperwork.

So if I go to get my SS# with my EAD in my maiden name, they won't change it there?

I plan to get my SS# first before getting a drivers liscence, but I do want to take his last name.... What should I do then?

Thank you all for your replies.
