Interview Questions

My husband has just received his interview appt., is it important that I , the spouse, be there with him during this interview? I am concerned that I may not be able to get off work in order to attend the interview with him, but I feel that I should be there with him. Also... wondering if the spouses are ever interviewed , since this is marriage based immigration/naturalization??? The interrogation we endured for the greencard is not something I am looking forward to repeating, but just want to know if that is unheard of or? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I went with my wife to her interview yesterday, and they wouldn't have even known I was there. We did not get interviewed for either AOS or Removing Conditions. I just made sure my wife had all the information listed on the check-list that came with the IL. The IO definitely went through all the evidence my wife took in with her.

My husband came with me to the interview - and sat the whole time in the waiting room waiting for me. I asked the interviewer if he was allowed to join me and she said 'no'. So, other than for moral support there really is no cause for you to be there. You won't be asked any questions - the validity of the marriage is given through the documents that you submit. They check those over and check them off against a list they have.

I was wondering the same thing too....Does the USC spouse need to be present at the interview?

It wouldn't be a problem in my situation though, as my husband has always been there for me for all of my immigration appointments and non-appointments to my "local" office, especially so that I need him to drive me there, since it is a long-distance drive (about 200+ miles round-trip) to the city (I hate driving in cities), and more so that I need him for moral support. He doesn't mind though, and I'm always glad to have him there with me. And yes, he'll be there with me when I have my N-400 interview (whenever that may be...hopefully not in the middle of a snowstorm!)....

In my opinion, yes, I think it is beneficial for one to have their spouse attend, even if they are just waiting in the waiting room. It is good to know that there is "someone there by your side for support through this difficult immigration process", and can actually be quite beneficial that way. However, if they can't make it though, for some valid reason or other, I'm sure the immigration officials would understand their absence (if they are required to attend for such an interview or for whatever else). If they are required to be present (though very unlikely, from what I've read here on vj), just make sure the immigration officials have a good explaination as to why that is the case and a way to contact that spouse if need be. For example, give them your spouse's work or cell phone number and have your spouse answer the phone call from them.

Lol...with all that extra "joint evidence" that one sends in, you would think that would be enough for them......

Then again...maybe it's better to appear in-person anyways..."To put a human face to all that paperwork..."

P.S. As for babies/children..lol...that's another story...But yes, I'm bringing my son along too (can't find any other babysitting), when my turn for the interview comes...Spouses and Babies, oh my!...It's going to be chaos at the USCIS when we go...lol....
