I-864 Affidavit of Support. Question 2 HELP?!?!

On the I-864 Affidavit of Support. Part 2. Information on the principal immigrant, question 2, asks for the last name. Do I put my wifes married name that she has taken from me or....... her maiden that is on the K-1 Visa in her passport?

If she has changed her name legally, then put her full legal name and her maiden name in parentheses/brackets (ie: Smith)

Hummmm...is getting married a legal change of name? or do you mean going to court and doing a legal name change?

What does it say on your marraige certificate? That is typically when a name change occurs.

if you are filing for k-1 visa, you will need i-134, not I-864.

either way, i would suggest to put the name which appears on her visa and passport.

Once you are married you are eligible to change your last name, your marriage certificate will be in maiden name. If you want to change the last name just put that in all your AOS paperwork and it will be changed, then you have to go change it with the SSA (social security administration) and change your passport.

Name changes do not happen on the marriage certificate, the marriage certificate is your proof you CAN change it if you want. The marriage certificate shows WHO married WHO not who married who and changed their last name. The marriage certificate will always have the maiden name of the female. It is only changed when you start changing your documents with the appropriate agencies.
