My wife arrived on her k-1 visa on may 12. We were married June 12. I have not yet filed my aos because I was waiting for my marriage certificate. I live in Hawaii. They told me that it takes 3 to 4 months to issuse. I have made phone calls and I hope it comes before August 12 so I can file in time, but that is another matter. My main concern is the medical forms. When we entered the U.S. in Honolulu they took the sealed envelope with all the infomation obtained from the medical we got overseas. We have no verification of anything. Does the goverment have those documents already. ? My wife had vaccinations and everything done in april. Do we have to do that again? I am starting to feel that time is short. I looked up physicians and the closest one is 120 miles away. Can someone get me on the right track on this and soon please!!!

Don't worry it seem's like everything is going as normal. They take everyone's Medical forms at the POE, You will be required to have a couple more shot's here, but most importantly you will need to have a Vaccination Supplement form filled out by a Civil Surgeon. You can only get the Supplement form filled out however once you have had all the required shots.

Good Luck

3-4 months to get your marriage certificate? that sounds extraordinarily long. is there no way you can get it sooner?

as for the medical forms, they take all that stuff at the POE, but the panel physican was supposed to give her a copy of the Vaccination Worksheet. your wife should be able to get a copy of it (DS-3025) mailed to her from the panel physician she saw in her country for the k1 medical (thats what i did). or she can go to any doctor in hawaii and get bloodwork (titers) to show that she is immune to Measles-Mumps-Rubella, Tetanus-Diptheria, and Chicken Pox (you did say she got all her shots done already right?). the results usually only take a few days but the cost of it can really add up if she is not insured.

with a copy of the DS-3025, or the results from the titers, she just needs to see a designated civil surgeon (look on the USCIS site for them) and they will transfer the info from the DS-3025 to an I-693A Vaccination Supplement. She won't have to do another physical (and don't let them convince you otherwise). and as long as the DS-3025 or the titers indicate that she's covered, she won't need anymore jabs either.

call around to find the best rates to get the form filled out and make sure they understand she is adjusting from a k1 visa and therefore doesn't need to do another physical (unless a year has passed since she got it done which is not the case for you). and you can ask about simply mailing them the DS-3025 (or titer results) and have them mail the completed I-693A back to you. there was a seattle doctor that used to do that but they stopped back in may i think. there may be others, i have no idea but since you say the nearest is 120 miles away, its worth a try.

best of luck to you.

My husband and I got our marriage certificate the same day we took it into the Probate Office (yes, the Probate Office) and also got an extra certified copy of the certificate. Why do you have to wait so long for a marriage cert.? Something sounds strange about that...

We're going this afternoon to a civil surgeon to get Joel's shot record transposed over to the I-693a and get the shots he needs to complete it. I was worried about the medical stuff too. One civil surgeon in ATL says she requires all K1's to do another medical, REGARDLESS of having had one a few months prior to arrival in the US - to the tune of $300 as well as the addt'l cost of the I-693a. I called around and found a civil surgeon who will merely do what we need for only $50.

Good luck to ya. :)

Well, the big question is, did you get married IN HAWAI'I as well??

The rules for marriage licenses and marriage certificates differ from state to state, and as far as I know, Hawai'i is by far the worst place in terms of obtaining the marriage certificate after you've done the deed :D

I live in Alaska, and had to send my completed certificate away after the ceremony, and it took more than two weeks to get the registered copy back (and if I hadn't called them, it probably would have taken even longer).

So, @ daveaway, if I were you, I would have your wife get titer tests for all the required vaccinations and then have one of the doctors on the USCIS list fill out the vaccination supplement I-693a. And if you have to drive 120 miles, I guess that's what you'll have to do (unless you can convince them to do everything by mail.....that would make it easier). I had to drive 70 miles (each way) to have the supplement filled out, and the same distance for the biometrics appointment. Those are the fun things we have to do to get the Green Card :(

Good luck,

CW
