Hi everyone, my name is Jon. I've got almost all of my paperwork done and in a few days plan on sending it in so I can have my wife come over from Venezuela.

Before I get my packet sent out I have a question...

I am a US citizen (by birth) and I know I need to send a copy of my birth certificate. The certificate I have is the short form (name, DOB, place of birth). Is that one fine, or do I need to send in the long form certificate with my parents' names? Thanks in advance.

Certified copy of the long form birth certificate or photocopy of all pages (even the blank ones) of your US passport.

So it has to be the long form? Damn! I only have the short form here. I guess I could copy my passport, but I really don't want to since I had grown a beard when that picture was taken but have since shaved it off. Guess I've gotta head down to the county clerk's office.

And I've been reading about how the K3 is all but obsolete, I think the CR1 is how we're going to do it. Besides, there should be less paperwork (and fees to pay) in the long run, right?

Thanks for your help!

Go CR1 ... take it from a K3 person. However, your photo won't matter much because you can shave or not shave when you feel like it. It won't change the validity of the document. There is less paperwork with CR1 and it costs you less and it cost you 1 month additional time and honestly.. it took that long for my husband to find a job which made us paying for EAD pretty much a waste of money....

It's proof of citizenship, not a cover-girl audition.
