Happy thanksgiving!

Today's the day! YAY YAY YAY!

My husband is brining the turkey as I type this. He told me to just sit down and relax today... but I would much rather be in the kitchen cooking.

I had turkey yesterday.

I kind of remember why I don't like it that much. I'd prefer chicken... and my family really, really needs to learn how to make gravy. All they do is thicken the drippings and it lacks flavour big time.

Montreal Interviewer (incredulously to me): "Do you agree with that?"

<I think back to several days before the interview. Driving through the country, passing a field with cows...>

Peachey: "MOOOO! MOOOOO! Does this make me weird?"

Me: "No, well yes. Here, let me roll down the windows so they can hear you better!"

Peachey: "MOOOOO!!!!"

Me: "Yes, yes I do."

Traditionally around here, you scoop that stuff out and make it into the gravy to serve.

Hence gizzard gravy's name.

Sometime though, since my mom didn't like gizzard gravy, she'd bake it and let my dad and I eat them for snacks while the bird baked.

I know, I'm weird.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I just have a turkey breast so won't get that lovely stuffing nor all the 'innards'. Mom used to cook them all up separately then give them to the cats for a special treat - what was left over, that is, from the rest of us helping ourselves! yeah, for the gravy I add seasoning and the drippings and flour as well - it is usually pretty tasty - unlike that bland stuff that is called gravy here - flour and water - blechh!

My MIL does that. :( It's so bland. She just adds potato water and flour. *sigh*

They make potatoes but they don't mash them. :(

They make this sweet potato souffle and then this other potato dish with weird stuff in it - I'm not a fan of either. I just like my potatoes mashed and with gravy.
