You totally just inspired me to go ahead and make a "turkey" dinner for Thanksgiving! My husband doesn't like turkey so it will have to be chicken, with it I ordered some swiss chalet dipping sauce, and I'll whip up some mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beans. Mmm I'm sooo looking forward to Monday now :)

I mean for some people it's the olympics or the stanley cup playoffs... for me... it's anything that involves eating a turkey.

I think I made last years thanksgiving thread too.

You guys don't get it, I live for turkey dinners. :D

I was so uber dissapointed that my husbands family doesn't eat turkey on Christmas that I vow to never spend another Christmas there again.

So, I commented to my husband the other day, hey Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up, is there anything special you would like? And the dang man was absolutely floored that I remembered the date. C'mon, I am MARRIED to a Canadian, am I really that thoughtless that I wouldn't remember it??? I gave him hell

But he is driving me crazy because I was wanting to try to make recipes that his family had or he particularly likes. And all he says is, "Whatever you want to eat honey".

I know for American Thanksgiving, I am a nut about the stuffing my mom made (family recipe for generations). Basic bread stuffing with celery, onion, sausage and roasted chestnuts. PIA to make but yummy. Hubby said that was different than what he is used to.

Yep I do.

I also bring my own tupperware to someones house if they're making the turkey dinner, that way they can send me home with left overs and not have to worry about losing their containers. I get so ready for it.

You could eat with no pants on. That's always an option!

White meat or Dark?

A true turkey lover isn't picky!

Actually I prefer the white but if it's only dark that's left I'll eat that too! Dark is great for soup because it adds so much flavor.

OMG! TURKEY SAMMICHES! TURKEY SOUP! TURKEY POT PIE!

ohhhhh Turkey is like cigarettes for me. When I smoked, it was Marlboro or nothing. I would rather suffer nicotene fits than smoke a camel. White meat FTW. I must confess that I tend to like turkey a bit dried.

I always loved my mom's stuffing from scratch, and I know this is going to sound sacreligious, but I also love stove top brand stuffing

Do you stuff your birds with the stuffing?

I tried doing this last year and my husband was mortified.

Umm why do you think they call it stuffing??

because prior to scientific investigation on what happens to the bird when it is full of stuffing, people stuffed the turkey?

I really like stove top stuffing too.

This year for Thanksgiving I'm going to hopefully hang out with my good friend. Her and I might go to one of her friends place and we can celebrate it there. No clue, still 2 months away to finalize the plans at this point. But since both of us have filed for divorce from our spouses her and I thought it would be good if we both spent it together...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

I love Mr. Bean.

Especially the episode where he's at the department store and plays with the Nativity Scene characters.

Since it is just the two of us and Joe has to work, I'll be making a turkey breast with stuffing, mashed potatoes, squash and something green:-) instead of a whole turkey (although my favourite is dark meat).

I miss the Thanksgivings we used to have when my Mom was still alive - she would invite anyone she knew who didn't have a family to go to or who were living on their own to join us - often students from Queen's University who couldn't afford to go home for Thanksgiving. We never had fewer than 10 people with us for Thanksgiving and often more. We always had turkey, stuffing (prepared in the bird), mashed potatoes and gravy, mashed turnips, peas, glazed carrots, a relish tray and a selection of homemade pies - lemon meringue, apple and pumpkin - for dessert. Our favourite dessert was called a 'yes' - "Would you like a piece of lemon meringue pie, apple pie or pumpkin pie?" "Yes!" - so you got a small slice of each  .
