Sour Apples: Apple and Woolworths Battle Over Logo

Apple isn't pleased with Woolworths Supermarkets' new logo, and this time the notoriously hard-lined tech company has a point.

Australia's Woolworths describes its logo (a peeled apple) as having "a stylised 'W' for Woolworths with the addition of an abstract leaf symbol representing fresh food." Apple thinks it's a rip off of its own famous logo and has reportedly filed a petition with IP Australia to reject Woolworths' logo.

Already Woolworths' new logo is expected to appear on 100,000 staff shirts, 800 trucks and on plastic bags in 780 supermarkets, AFN reports. While a ruling still must be made, one thing is a good bet: There won't be a Woolworth iPhone app on Apple's App Store.

Figures the Australians have to copy an American company. No original thinking at all.

Did you noticed who they are battling? Hint, this same company went out of business here. They actually bought Safeway from the US Safeway back n the 80's too. Now they're worth more than them and have managed to do so amongst 21 million customers.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

They still copied Apple's logo. That's copyright infringement.

Apple are dipshit dweebs. Jobs & Wozniak started their company in the late 70s a full decade after Apple Records (of Beatles fame) was already established and trademarked and world renowned. Then they spent years in copyright dispute over the Apple name and logo, only to reach a settlement that Apple Records would have exclusive rights to music publication and distribution, while Apple Computer would stay focused on tech gizmos. In the era before MP3s, made sense, right? Only now we're in the era of iPhone and iPod and iTunes, so of course Apple Computer had to go and push out Apple Records once more.

Dipshit dweebs. For them to get in a hissy now about someone stealing the Apple logo makes me laugh.

I forgot all about that. But it still doesn't change the fact that the Australians are copy cats and have no original ideas.

Too bad the produce here is absolutely #######. Biggest and first difference anyone from the US who goes to AUS and buys fresh food is notices, is the quality. Not to mention how cheap yet abundant this fresh produce is. Whole Foods quality in their little packages here can be found at woolworths there.

Quite frankly your opinion means squat and will not change their success. It just funny to see what sore losers certain people are. At least they don't have kids being shot in their streets or beaten up in wild brawls. More kids have die in Chicago than Australia, UK, Canada and New Zealand combined.

I'd ask you for a citation, but I've gone down that road before.

Let's just let you "win" this one.

To be clear - your comment is that a single city with metro area population ~ 7 million has more kids dying (presumably from homicide, yes?) than the combined populations of 4 COUNTRIES (UK + Canada alone pushing 100 million). Um, yeah, dude.

I'll smoke what he's smokin'......

Do you really want to go down that road? Considering I could find 100 equivalents in today's papers alone. This who can post the most negative articles has been played before. You'll only end up making yourself look like a fool, as your buds ended up doing.
