middle name confusion

Hi everyone,

We need advise on what the best thing to do with middle names. When I applied for my SSN and state ID, I used my father's last name as my middle name as per Philippine custom. When we applied for AOS we used the the same middle name and received my EAD and my advanced parole with the same middle name. When we get to the interview, the officer told us that I cannot change my middle name. We think the officer made some changes because when we received the green card approval notice, they used my mother's last name as my first name and my father's last name as my middle name. My first name was not on the card so it's all screwed up. We called right away to correct it and they said they will send an expedite request to change the name on the card but we guess that the request did not make it on time because now we have the green card with the incorrect name on it. What's the best thing to do in this situation? I need to work and we also want to travel. Will the I-551 stamp allow you to do that? How can I get the I-551 stamp? Is it only thru an Infopass? Am I really not allowed to change my middle name? How difficult will it be to get a new SSN and state ID with a new middle name if we are really not allowed to change it here? I have read some posts that did the same (using the father's last name as middle name) and they don't seem to have any problems.

We would appreciate any advise.

Thanks!

Wes and Amy

you have to send back the GC and have it corrected right away, use 1-90 form from the USCIS.gove website.

looks like whoever processed your application got confused. since here in the US a middle name is really a second name (whereas in the phils it's our mother's last name)

unfortunately you have to pay (there's a fee for the correction) for their mistake.
