i was told that i needed to make a copy of the front and back of my birth certificate. i did so but the back is blank. is that normal? if not should i send in the passport copy instead? what pages do i copy in my passport? is it just the page with my information and picture on it?

It is normal for some, seems like normal for yours. Copy front and back. Write on the blank copy "copy of back of birth certificate" If you DO NOT all USCIS will know is that they DO NOT HAVE a copy of the BACK of your birth certificate and you (might) get an RFE for a blank piece of paper...and a several week delay in your case. Wouldn't YOU feel foolish?

If you use the pasport as proof of citizenship then you must copy ALL pages, even the blank ones. For proof of travel you need only the photo and sgnature page and appropriate stamps.
