Once I heard that Obama could only do one thing at a time. Now, I'm hearing him doing many things at once. Right-wing rhetoric.

according to you, he investigates county sheriffs

If anyone know anything about this Sheriff, he is quite a threat to local cities within his District. The local mayors filed complaints against him to the DHS in regards to his almost unlimited power to drain any city resources at his disposal due to the backing of the DHS.

He was pretty much a douche bag. Obama heard the complaints and investigated him on the Sheriff abuse of power. He nearly stripped him of that power. It wasn't intentionally for the purpose of saving those illegals. This Sheriff is scary.

This is the same sheriff who was found personally liable for deaths and injuries in custody (of which there have been a fair few linked to his jails).

The only reason people like this guy is because he presents the appearance of being a "no nonsense" folk hero on illegal immigration - usually for people who think that the law is or should be mutable towards their own particular biases.

The sheriff said he signed a new agreement Friday that will allow deputies and detention officers to continue screening every inmate booked into Maricopa County jails to determine their immigration status. But he said federal authorities had not offered an agreement to extend Arpaio's street-level immigration enforcement.

...

The jail-screening effort helped officials catch nearly 30,000 illegal immigrants since the program began in February 2007, but it was the street-level enforcement that caused the most controversy and produced less substantial results, capturing about 264 illegal-immigration suspects.

So, they retained what's effective and scrapped what isn't. Makes sense, doesn't it?

No. All that matters is that my inner impotent rage against people I do not like and do not understand be satiated. Nothing else is important.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Impeach him!!

It's not Obama. Its the ACLU. Did you even read the article? ACLU also preventing parents in Los Angeles from knowing which schools are having Swine Flu outbreaks. ACLU is ruining our country. What say you, Spooks?

Right on there. The ACLU gets to call the shots and dictate the direction of the country by means of the court room. It's no longer about the what the people want but what the ACLU deems is important. They go from town to city, county to state and change the community to suit their own idealogy.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Ah the ACLU - that old paper tiger

Yes the ACLU. Guess who sued against the DC checkpoints that would have saved lives.

Well if you take the attitude that the means justify the ends then anything becomes justifiable and you might as well do away with the legal system entirely and impose martial law.

The checkpoints you were talking about essentially did away with "just cause" and made the assumption that everyone was guilty. If you believe in a fair justice system - there's no way that this sort of thing is justifiable.

There is a reason why ACLU type groups have no influence in AUS, as they don't represent the people. As such, their opinion is noted but that is about it. Whereas, the ACLU gets to change a town or county here because they 'disagree' with something a town is doing. The question is, is America a democracy or is it run by ACLUs and the courts?

You're right though, being shot and killed is clearly less important than a community being inconvenienced at 3 in the morning. Same way the ACLU will sue to stop cities and counties from setting up 24 hour street surveillance, because it violates people's rights. How about being able to live freely rather than murdered fuckwits?

If you honestly believe that the ends justify the means as it pertains to things like infringements on the constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens, then there isn't much left to discuss.

Its a strange way to promote "democracy" by endorsing totalitarianism in law enforcement.

As Benjamin Franklin famously said: "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."

The sentence you put in bold, and more importantly, the subsequent one that you failed to bold completely invalidates the sheriff's position. Furthermore, the sheriff has no authority to patrol for illegal immigrants on the street. That is the jurisdiction of ICE.
