Despite Rising Unemployment, DHS Prepares for Amnesty!

This is a slap in the face of Americans who have paid hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to bring there love ones to the US. Not mention the months it takes for the legal process.

On Friday, October 2, the director of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Alejandro Mayorkas, told The New York Times that his agency is “under way to prepare for” the possibility of giving legal status to millions of amnestied illegal aliens.

That is great news. What else do the millions of Americans out of work or in poverty need than even more unskilled labor to compete with.

I am sure, as usual they will claim they are putting measures in place to ensure this does not happen again; which we know is a bunch of bullcrap. While in another 10 to 15 years the US is at the same place. Only difference is that by then rather than 50 million in poverty, 80 million will be living in poverty.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Having a steady flow of immigrants into this country actually boosts our economy. It's just that in this economic downturn, people like you are looking for a scapegoat. You should direct your anger at those responsible for driving this economy into the ground, not immigrants....especially given the fact that you yourself are importing a spouse.

So tell me then, how many countries have amnesties? considering the US is going for its second run. Actually immigration was an important aspect of the human development index rankings, with Australia just moving up to the second spot. Strange that this same country has zero tolerance of illegal aliens.

Besides that, what you are suggesting is that the US should allow even more unskilled illegal aliens to enter at will, all while the country's manufacturing base is dying rapidly. Why do you guys disingenuously make it out to be anti-immigration? seriously why? As I am yet to find one person who is anti-immigration as a whole, not one. What people are against is illegal aliens.

Only someone who does not give a ####### about their country or their people would condone illegal immigration.

Especially during the worst recession since the great depression.

I think employers should be able to easily apply and get H1 visas to fill positions if they can demonstrate that they cannot fill those positions through conventional means. It is the nature of the job market that those who are marginalized are the ones working the jobs that typically others won't work...just take a good look at your local hand car wash or the cleaning crew of your office.

I for one will be in accord with your statement. My point was about us who go the legal route.

Amnesty isn't condoning anything. It's applying a pragmatic solution to the problem when there are no other viable alternatives to dealing with the millions of undocumented workers already here. I'm sure if someone could come up with another reasonable and viable option, that would be considered. There isn't...just like there wasn't back when Reagan granted amnesty.

Immigration is immigration in terms of it's impact on the economy. You are trying to make the argument that you importing a spouse doesn't have the same toll on the economy as someone who is here as undocumented worker. Your logic fails.

"Importing a spouse"? Are you in the mood to insult people tonight? Because that's what it sounds like.

You write as if the non-USC's, VJ contributors and spouses of contributors alike, are just pieces of merchandise. Worse still, you are, by implication, given that you are not differentiating between illegal aliens and spouses and fiances/fiancees obeying the law to obtain visas legally, likening the USC to illegal alien traffickers, simply by accusing them of bringing non-USC's to the country. Your attitude is a disgrace.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

It’s not skilled illegal aliens coming here, its unskilled uneducated folk. The only reason these guys have such entry level jobs is because small businesses are able to pay them under the table or using false id’s. I am never going to believe that 50 million Americans living in poverty refuse to do this work. Also keep in mind that was the number of people in poverty from 2006, before the crisis and during the boom years. I don’t buy for a second that the 15 million who are currently out of work will refuse to do this work. Not everyone is an elitist who is too good to work any manual labor.

On one hand some talk about ‘compassion for the poor’ and ‘screwing big business’, yet on the other hand these same individuals are ###### the poor directly by allowing illegal aliens to benefit, to have a job, while the poor live in squalor. You know what; a person has to start somewhere. How does someone poor start anywhere when all of the entry level jobs are taken by illegal aliens? Don’t talk about the 20’s and 30’s, when the majority of things were manufactured here, as it’s a totally different world now. These illegal aliens are directly competing with Americans.

The developed world no longer looks at the US as the beacon of immigration. To the contrary, they see people who allow illegal aliens to trample on their own, while South America's poor setup shop.

I'm not really sure what other choice they have at this point. It would probably be too expensive to round them all up and deport them. Impractical, too. They do it bit by bit now, as they can but what good does that really do?

Real love stories never have endings...

If these guys are processed and granted residency, there better be a sound system in place to stop it from happening again. Otherwise this country will end up the laughing stock of the developed world. To be honest, I am sick of having to defend the country's incompetence abroad against people who use this ####### against me, to attack the country.

Converting everyone's social security card to EAD standard would nip the issue in the butt overnight. As would increasing the fines to a price point that actually affect an employer, like $15k per offense, with possible jail time for multiple offenders.
