Contacted my Senator

Well I sent an email tonight to my Senator (since my Congressman was worthless). I will call in a couple days too if I don't get a reply by email. I will post if I hear anything. I just basically asked general questions about this new process and if he could shed any insight.

Jen

P.S. If I hear anything after I move, I will post from my work since I won't have a computer at home for a few weeks!

Oops! I probably should have put this under IMBRA. I was ask Captain to move for me.

Jen, usually emails to senators simply generate a response, about a month or two later, thanking you for your support of the senator's position on immgration reform.

For more immediate assistance, I suggest you contact your senator(s) by downloading the privacy form, filling it out and faxing to the office. Then call to follow up. This way, a specific person is assigned to your case and has the responsibility to answer your questions.

You can use this form to contact both Ohio senators and fax to each individual office.

Good luck

Wow am I impressed. I faxed this afternoon the release form to my US Senators that 'Kitkat' gave me. They called me immediately.

This is what I was told. California is processing the petitions immediately after receiving the RFE back. However, they have been told that the petitions will be processed within 30 days of the receipt date. This is the receipt date that California acknowledged receiving back the RFE. He said that if I didn't have my approval by August 8th (which is 30 days from the receipt date) to call him back and they will take further action with CSC.

Thanks Jen.... I can only hope that this is not false hope... so many of these "senator responses" have not panned out... would feel better if this were substantiated by others who have contacted their senators....

But, without hope, we have nothing, so at least this is another stake in the ground...

This is to imply that every petition that sent its RFE back will be done in 30 days? Doesnt sound plausible.

Numerous postings have outlined Senators' response that petitions are being processed in order of NOA1 date after the RFE has been recieved. Perhaps what your Senator meant was that the RFE itself will be processed within 30 days..not the petition...that doesnt make any sense. That would imply that almost ever K1 petition would be done and sent to NVC by mid August...there is no way...

I dont mean to be pessimistic, but I wouldnt come to expect an NOA2 in 30 days of RFE reciept regardless of when your NOA1 was. But, who knows what CSC does....

I agree with you Joseph. I think the service centers ARE providing information to the senators - but we know now that it isn't very accurate. For example, several senators were told RFEs were being mailed on June 23 and we know now that only the first wave went out that date -- rather important detail that the service center conveniently omitted when providing information to the senators.

Since they cannot process everyone's entire petition in 30 days, I think it's clear they mean the RFE will be processed in 30 days. After that, they are supposed to go by NOA1 when it comes to approving - meaning in order.

Again, there doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason here. Jen filed almost a month after me but got her RFE 10 days before me. So it's impossible to know how they would manage processing in this example - first they "process" the RFE - then what? Put Jen's file aside until my NOA is generated? I just don't think so. So maybe she actually WILL hae the NOA by August. I guess we all know - only time will tell. In the meantime, I'll check in with my senator's office to see what she has to say as well.

Yes I am a bit skeptic to but I finally have somebody that is willing to work with me. The Congressman that I contacted never even bothered to call me back. I feel a little bit better that I have somebody to contact if August 8th comes and goes with no approval.

Yes I am a bit skeptic to but I finally have somebody that is willing to work with me.

Aside from an approval on August 8, this is the best part!

Everyone really should contact their senators by filling out the privacy form, faxing it and calling to follow up. If one doesn't respond, contact the other. There is just no good reason for us all to be sitting here wondering and waiting with no information. And since CSC doesn't seem to have a clue, I think we will all at least feel a bit better when we have someone from the senator's office on our side to make inquiries. Granted, they can't always provide the clearest or most accurate information, but there is a lot to be said for the comfort it brings when you know someone, somewhere, is willing to try to get answers and actually return a phone call. As pissed off as I am, it has made a big difference to me.

I am in LA county...anyone have contact info for Senators here?

Should I simply go to government website?

I am ready to be post RFE proactive. Is not acceptable for them to think they have tided us over for now and then 2 more months (2 more weeks for that matter!) pass with no NOA2's. We should swamp them with pressure again as we did IMBRA style!

Yesterday I contacted both of my senators from Indiana. One of the senator's immigration specialists emailed me today and told me that he has contacted the CSC and is awaiting more information from them. If I do not hear from them by week's end, I am to call the immigration specialist back and "formulate a plan"!! Who knows if it will actually do any good or not. This is the first time in my 51 years that I have ever contacted a US legislator before but when government begins interfering with my fiancee and my happiness my "Agent Organge starts acting up"! ala "Major Payne" :P

Time will tell if all of the communications with our congressmen which applicants are performing will do any good at all for us. It seems it is our only tool with which to use to try and "fix" the problem. Good luck to us all!

Is there a generic privacy form somewhere? The one you directed Jen to was for OH... I've tried to find one for MI on my Senators' web sites, but no luck....

A bit of a tip on contacting Senate and House offices, since I work in one:

DON'T EMAIL. The emails go into a massive database, often with thousands of others, which interns have to sort through, send to a staffer, etc. CALL the district office (not Washington office) and ask for the staffer that handles immigration cases. They are the one you want to talk to, and in the case of our office, will always open a case for you and talk to you as soon as they humanly can.

Good luck!

Stabenow and Levin's sites are unusual because I didn't see a privacy form. I would call instead:

Levin: "If your matter is urgent, please call my Detroit office at (313) 226-6020"

Stabenow: (313) 961-4330
