Ok, so we have our long awaited interview appt. for Montreal in November now, and started researching the cost of the trip there... Ouch!

So, now it's got me wondering if there's any possibility of Montreal transfering the file to my local USCIS office and processing it like an Adjustment of Status? Just seems crazy to have to to go to Montreal when my hubby already has his K-3 visa, his EAD, Social Security card and a Calif. Driver's License....

It would almost be cheaper to ditch the I-130 in MOntreal and start over with an AOS here, but It would be WAY too much work at this point. Maybe I'm just dreaming and rambling, but for the two of us to go to Montreal is about 2 grand.

Sadly, I think the cost of the trip is cheaper than the AOS process. There are many ways to get to Montreal. Fly to Buffalo and rent a car (that's what my husband did - picking me up in Toronto en route and it was fairly cheap). It was more of a hassle but cheaper.

Good luck

Unfortunately, I don't think they will transfer anything since the paperwork is different. Just for the sake of time, I would probably just go to Montreal to get it over with, but that's a decision you have to make. Maybe prices will come down, or maybe he can go alone? Since he's already living in the U.S., I'm sure they would understand why you weren't there, especially if the cost were too high. Good luck!

2 grand? yikes - how are you routing? something smells fishy.

If you are going north first, crossing the border in a plane over washington state, and STILL come up with 2 grand - I'll suggest to you to find a local asian travel agent in your town, ask for a quote.

I actually applaud you for going back to Montreal for the CR-1 . This was the 'holy grail' for a few years for China petitions.
