I need some advise, for a fellow student. My friend brought her little sister here to visit on a B-2 visa, when her sister was 9 years old. She kept here sister here in the USA, to go to school and have a better life. Her sister is now 17, just graduated from high school with honors, but has no green card no soc sec card no DL. she is not in any trouble with the INS yet.... My question, how can she remain in the country and get whatever she needs to be here legally? Her sister arrived here 13 years ago because of the VISA lottery. This is the nicest sweetest family that everyone would want as a neighbor. what can she do to continue to keep here sister here legally?

thanks everyone

She will be forgiven the overstay if she leaves the country before she is 18. She will not be forgiven if she waits until after she is 18. I don't know of any way that she can stay and become legal.

The obvious one is to marry a USC.

http://britishexpats.com/articles/usa/how-...ork-in-the-usa/

Which one does she qualify for?

Presumably her Sister is now a USC?, she can apply for her Sister but it is a very long wait and she would have to maintain legal status in the meantime.

Note that some visa type require you to show non-immigrant intent which may be impossible in her circumstances.

Or she carries on illegally.

You might check to see if the DREAM Act is a reality yet. I dont remember the details but it had to do with outstanding students here illegally. The President was going to sign the act when Congress had finished with it, but Im just not sure what happened to it.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I would suggest you get legal advice - try this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/immigration_info/messages

An immigration attorney gives 'free' advice.

However I would recommend you to also continue using Vj as you will get lots of valuable information and support. You can also pass on any information to help others in similar situations.

Good Luck
