Yeah I was actually pretty stunned that Obama got shut-out so fast, how did that City even get nominated?

I would think that happened some time ago, why not a more attractive place so we would have had a real chance?

Even so we have been spoon-fed this pap about how much the World Luvs Obama but from every expression I see, thats a bunch of BS... if they did, they would have gave him a "pity vote" to at least make it look close.

To be honest, how fake and phoney is it to be taxing everyone to death in order to save the world from Global warming...... and at the same time not calling for an end or serious modification to the Olympics which will create at least a million tons of evil pollution... all for entertainment and sport.

Either we have a severe emergency or not.

HAHAHHAH so right on and so true, took 30 years to pay off those 1976 Olympics in Montreal, wonder if it was worth it! NOT! Damn thing is corrupt and disorganized and run by a bunch of A$$ clowns from Europe and other parts of the world that know damn little about sports but sure know a lot about bribes and corruption!

Now that's funny. Lil' numbnut Sarah here - who just a few posts ago put Germany (or Ethiopia) into the Middle East - talks about what people do and don't know. Unlike you, Sarah, they do know their map. Now go back and try to study at least some basics before you make any more embarrassing comments. Otherwise, it'll be nothing but Special Olympics for you. ;)

Speaking about Germany - I just got back from Munich the other day and while it is undoubtedly one of the most expensive cities in Germany, the urban environment there beats pretty much every US city I've been to hands-down.

No doubt. This is true of most major cities in Germany, by the way.

Germany tops the UK in that regard to. Only comparable city I can think of is Manchester, a lot which was redeveloped a few years ago for the commonwealth games.

Hopefully the 2012 games will do something similar to London and the south east.

Either we have a severe emergency or not.

Initially, five American cities vied for the 2016 Olympics: Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The USOC's chairman at the time, Peter Ueberroth, visited all potential host cities during April and May 2006. He visited Chicago on May 10. On July 26, 2006, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) narrowed its list of American applicant cities to three: Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. San Francisco withdrew its application on November 13, 2006 after the San Francisco 49ers pulled out of a deal for the construction of a new stadium that would be the centerpiece of the games.

The final stage of the USOC internal selection occurred on April 14, 2007, at Washington, D.C.'s Embassy Row Hotel, where the two remaining bid cities, Chicago and Los Angeles, made a last 40-minute presentation to the USOC board members. At about 9:00 pm UTC, Chicago was announced as the winner of the United States bid for the 2016 Olympic Games by Ueberroth.

On October 2, 2009, Chicago's bid at hosting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games officially ended when the Olympic Committee voted them out in the round of four.

Didn't help Los Angeles, or Atlanta. Both those cities suck hind titty.

Well it wold never have worked in LA as you need public transport. Not to mention the huge negative of south central amongst other things.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

well, LA has held the Olympics before... back in 1984

Despite the stigma that the Olympics required going into significant debt, Los Angeles successfully hosted the Olympics without any debt. In fact, its Olympic committee ended up with a profit that was in part used to establish and endow the Amateur Athletic Foundation to promote youth sports in Southern California and maintain a Sports Library. The 1984 Summer Olympics are often considered the most financially successful modern Olympics.

Showing your lack of knowledge? Los Angeles hosted the Olympics twice, 1932 and 1984.

The geography is different.

I haven't been to Atlanta proper, but the LA area does have a fair few really nice neighborhoods. The problem with it as a whole is that the integration isn't there, though that is getting better with the metro rail.

Yes, it is urban sprawl on steriods. Los Angles becomes a different town, however, when you live there long enough to consider it as a bunch of communities. Then it takes on an unusual flavor. But, returning to the town I was born and raised in, much of that flavor I remember is lost. It has become plain jello.

Anyway, LA is another has been. Hence why everyone lives in the burbs. Look at LAX international, which has not been renovated since it opened in the early 80's. Every time I go back to Melbourne or Sydney their already new airports are being renovated or expanded yet again. These nice airports are ####### compared to the rest of the world's airports; which absolutely annihilate LAX.

I am starting to get a picture why the country is the way it is. You guys promote mediocrity. It's why places like US airports are just ####### and boring.

That's because everyone else in the world is centered around modern cities. I am yet to find one other developed country where the outer outer burbs are the place to be. Let alone fragmented and dying small towns.
